Hi all I have got a coin unique and was wondering if anyone had any ideas for tricks with it, I know 2, 1. you put a 20p and 1p in you hand and the 1p vanishes, and 2. you put a 20p and 1p in a matchbox and the 1p vanishes and you produce it from somewhere, but does anyone know of any more tricks that you can do with it.
any ideas would be wonderful. thanks david |

Coin through glass is also done with the coin unique.
Mine is a Half and a quarter. The Quarter penetrates a glass and can be signed. Great piece of magic. Mobius |

Put the quarter and the half on a table or mat with the half dollar slightly overlapping the quarter. Place a glass or clear ashtray over the coins and swirl them around. Before doing the circular motion slide the half over the quarter and then begin the swirl. Remove the glass and produce the duplicate from under the table, under the mat, on top of a beer bottle etc. and display the single remaining coin, the half.

That's great, 1 question though, how can the coin through glass be signed?

Switch....only have one side of the real quarter signed.
you (magician) can either sign the other side and the coin unique or do it unsigned ..it is just as good either way. Mobius |

Put a 5p inside the £1, show the coins as a £1 and a 1p then pass the 1p over and under the £1 several times and finally insert the 1p into the £1 as you pass in under and exchange for the 5p then hand out the £1 and 5p for examination!

You could also use a folded up note, playing card or a written prediction instead of the 5p ;-)

Well, usually if they don't suspect anything, or you don't mention that the coin will penetrate the glass, they wont ask to sign the coin. So for me, to play it safe (I cant do a switch), I just perform with mentioning "penetrate". I think it's also a good mind game for audience guessing what we will do next especially for close-up.

I'm looking for information as to the creator/originator of the Coin Unique effect. I know the principle is well-known and possibly centuries old - having been used in such effects at the Scotch & Soda, dime/penny, etc. However, any information as to the developer of the Coin Unique effect would be helpful. Thank you!

Just a quick tip for those that don't already know. Even though this is a great effect it does have its weakness e.g. why show 2 coins but only 1 disappears or penetrates.
To overcome this always use a magicians force to get the spectators to pick the relevant coin. This way everything seems even more magical because the magic happened with their freely chosen coin. |

The Miracle chip by Mark Mason has 9 routines that should give you some ideas for the coin unique. (the principle is similar). I actually prefer the miricle chip to the coin unique for some of the routines because it is more visual, but you have to use the gambling/casino storyline which may not be appropriate for some spectators (childeren, for instance).

One effect I do with the coin unique focuses on the box. I use an elaborate crystal (actually acrylic) see-through jewelry box I bought on ebay for $5. This focuses the attention on the box, which is ordinary and away from the coins which are not. The visuals are amazing and I am always surprised that such an easy effect has the kind of impact that it does. As an extra flourish I pull the crystal box out of a rich velvet bag, again purchased on ebay for about $4.50, and casually pull the coins out of my pocket as if they just happened to be there.

Does anyone make a Coin Unique with U.S. coins other than a half and a quarter? I had trouble searching for a thread on this, so perhaps PM me if you know please.

How about this. You borrow a 20p and two pennies.
You take the 20p and the 1p and the 1p vanishes. Then, you add the other penny. You take the 20p and the 1p and the 20p vanishes. Then, the penny vanishes. But you need to replace the borrowed 22p. So you produce 22p in pennies, pouring them onto the table/into a glass/spectator's hands/onto a tray, or whatever. |

I still think the Coin Unique trick where you place both coins in a glass and gently blend one into the other so you're left with only one coin is still the most effective. It's one of those "right before your eyes" stunners.

Is the coin truly examinable by the spectator?

Best I have seen is a routine supplied by Mark Mason/Bob Swadling with the Miracle Chip, wherein the smaller coin vanishes and then appears inside a boxed deck of cards, marking the spectator's selected (and signed, if desired) card.
BTW, on the DVD supplied with Mark and Bob's Triception coin set Mark mentions the Coin Unique a few times, seeming to rib Bob Swadling about its genealogy, strongly implying that Bob Swadling was the original creator of it but that the credit for the gimmick has been claimed by others. I have not found anything in writing anywhere else that confirms this - yet. Thank you. Jim |

I Have a £1/1p version and would like a £2/2p one, but have heard that the m***** is not reliable due to the weight of the coin. Has anyone had any experience of this?
