For those who may not be aware, The Book of Forgotten Secrets
A Tour on the Bizarre Side by Stephen Minch is now available. Quote:
The Book of Forgotten Secrets contains the full contents of the long-out-of-print and difficult to find Lovecraftian Ceremonies, revised and updated, plus other bizarre gems previously available only in rare publications and bowdlerized versions. Fully scripted and described. Also included is a long critical exploration of the bizarre magick movement and further unpublished material. I know some here were looking for this. http://www.hermeticpress.com/ My copy is in the mail... It is going to be a great Halloween! Tony |

Oh, and the book is out in perfect time for Halloween. We start planning for the next season in mid-late October!

Received it yesterday in UK, regardless of postal strikes
Great book, although I already had the original "Lovecraftian Ceremonies". A good history of bizarre magick as well which will be a reference in years to come. |

Got my copy (#60) in the mail today. Same format and size as Max Maven's "The Protocols of the Elders OfMagic".

There is just too much coming out right now and I NEED it all.
This sounds like an incredible book almost along the lines of the Compleat Invocation. I am a huge Lovecraft fan as well. |

I just got my copy in the post. #250.
I've been looking everywhere for a copy of the original Lovecraftian Ceremonies but was afraid I'd never find a copy to enjoy. My great thanks to Stephen Minch for providing us with a revised and updated version. I will be delving it's secrets as I retire to bed this eve. It will have a place amongst the other greats of my bizarre collection next to Baba Gede Nibo, Eugene Poinc, and Eugene Burger. |

For those of us that never saw the original, could someone please provide more information about the content of the book? Are there illustrations, photos to support the copy? Thanks!

It's a marvelous book, but my perspective may be a bit different than others.
There are effects, and they are broken into theme-based sections which happen to correspond to phases in Minch's career. As with most great mentalism, the methodologies are simple--some may even disappoint in their simplicity--but the effects are novel. There is also a good history of Bizarre Magick, though really more a history of Bizarre journals, along with an intriguing, original tale to close the book; I'm still deciding if I care for that tale... My inexpert thought: If you purchase this with the intent of learning "one more effect" or "another inventive method" you will be disappointed. If, however, you purchase it with the intent of soaking up the atmosphere and reading between the lines and taking in Minch's humor (which is simultaneously broad and subdued), then you'll find it worth the money. |

Just to expand on Garrette's review. . .
Methodologies may be simple but a few require some knowledge of some basic chemistry. I've found acquiring chemicals to be much challenging in the present political climate, though it's easier than it was in 2002. Some of the effects may require time to hunt for and/or create the props. I find that to be half the fun, though. I'm quite fond of that last parable. There are some supporting illustrations. No photos, though you won't need them. The down side is that it doesn't have the original Stephen Fabian illustrations. They didn't support the effects, but they were a lot of fun. Great book. I have the original Lovecraftian Ceremonies and I'm very glad I picked this up.

Hmmmm....yes. "Parable" is a much better word for it than "tale."
