They've been advertising this here for a while but the commercials make it look like a terrible formulaic kids movie with vampires....this trailer makes it look much more fun! while still being a kids movie......
thank you for sharing, I just may go see this, I think it opens this week..?

The music is nice, not excellent but nice. It's the atmosphere of a freak circus that attracted my attention.

Twilight made a lot of money and so now everyone is looking to cash in on that by putting anything with vampires on tv and in the movies, but without taking the time to make them GOOD.

It's from an interesting series of books by Darren Shan. The books are good, but are written for tweens and young teens.

Carnies may indeed be the next big "fad." (Anyone remember the excellent "Carnivale" a few years back?)
Of course, we may also see a surge of "vampire hunter" films too.

Saw this last evening, and wow!
The mood, the feel, the costumes and sets, the choice of actors, music, story, performances... all spot-on and 100% fun. My only disapintment perhaps, the face scars that looked like eyebrow-pencil on one actor. And if that's all you have to gripe about, well just a great film! The film is hig-paced, and the story does not let you down. Great respect for wonderful props, (some that could be adapted for magical use) and honest acting, in what could have been over-the-top performances, that were restrained and truthful due to the director and actors. The Carnival/Cirque feel was very well realized, and while not as dark as Tim Burton's films, or as deep as Bradbury plots, the whole thing held interest. I understand it was from a series of books, and I hope a quality sequal or two will be in the works. I will rent/buy it to see again on DVD, along with any extras. Most of us here in this Café section might fit in comfortably at their Cirque I fear... Magically, Walt |

Just an aside. . . I saw in today's NYT book section that Bram Stoker's great grand nephew has written a sequel to Dracula. It sounds especially bad. The reviewers there tend to be pretty good so I'm thinking I'll give it a pass, but perhaps one of you suckers. . . I mean fine friends could be enticed to give it a try and let us know. I believe it's call "Dracula The Un-Dead".
What would Wavy do?

Yeah I think that Carnivale was ahead of it's time. That would easily be one of my all time favourite television shows. I was devastated when it was cancelled, the cast was brilliant and the story amazing.
I think the vampire's assistant looks like a bit of mindless fun though. It can't be any worse than twilight, I'd rather be hung upside down by my toes than have to suffer through that drivel again. |

My girlfriend rented "Twee-Light." It was so horrible. I mean, vegetarian vampire, what??? WTF??? What's next? "I'm a zombie but I only eat colliflower because it looks a little like brains... I mean, 'moan.'"
Vampire's Assistant looks like a lot of fun though. Is that "Shake n' Bake" as the lead vampire?

Haha yeah John C Reilly.
I think you may have stumbled across something there, a zombie's moral struggle with cannibalism, throw in a female love interest (preferably human) and you would have a fantastic Twilight parody. |
