Have just purchased the MC Butterfly from Hocus Pocus which arrived today. It's a cool looking trick, it's just accompanied by instructions in Chinese. There are brief English instructions BUT they are very non specific as the actual 'magic' part to the trick..."wile doing so, secretly tie the yellow silk to the red silk on the back.(like shown on the picture)" it says! Well the photocopied page is grainy and they have used a red silk... but in black and white so it looks like the wood finish on the base! Surely I need to learn the 'secret' way of tying the knot, with one hand like the guy did in the very slick presentation on the website (or youtube). I thought it could have been a 'rubberband knot' because the transition was so fast. Please help... I don't want this to be another trick that collects dust...
Posted: Nov 3, 2009 4:50am Link for the MC Butterfly you tube presentation... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=umcvLJAi04M Posted: Nov 3, 2009 3:04pm So the question is how do I tie the silks together so quickly? By the way I am not belittling this trick in any way!!! |

Harry, no need for you to tying the knot. It's done automatically with the supply gimmick silks. BTW the instruction is in Japanese.

Instructions in Japanese? Is that a problem? LOL

Not a problem I guess, because they include some photos in the instruction, and with the gimmick in your hand you can figure out easily.

Without access to the video where I am, but by looking at the description, is this a version of 20th Century silks? If so, the method should be easy to find.
On a side note: We purchased our Nankin Tamasudure from Japan and the dvd that came with it was in Japanese. We were still able to learn the effect. |

Not exactly as 20 th century silks. This is an improvement old effect called "SILK BETWEEN ". So basicall you see 2 separate hanging silks on the stand. You vanish the 3th silk, when you pull the silk on the stand, they are connected with the vanishing silk tied in the middle.

Thanks heaps for your feed-back!!
It has taken 4 days to try and work this all out!! The instructions are in Japanese and the page with with photos & discription you get in "England" really didn't tell you much. The problem I had, was I didn't get the special gimicked silks with this trick and without them I didn't know the secret. So you can imagine the fun and games I had trying to tie my own standard 12 inch silks together, with one hand and in one second. Then a magic company told me I need rubberbands...but couldn't see where they attached! But if the silks had come with the trick from the beginning I would have worked it out straight away. FUNNY!! So once again thanks for your help so I know when I get the silks I will be on my way!!! |

This is the same effect as the 20th Century Silks. These stands have been around before I was interested in magic. Many designs have been available.
What is different in this model is that in the other versions, the silks are placed in the stand before performance out of the sight of the the audience, which is a nice touch for magicians. I don't know if it adds much for the audience point of view, if they did not witness this earlier version. Nice effect, but I would rather see the butterfly have a nice paint job in bright colors. That is just my opinion. As far as Japanese instructions, if noone on the Café will translate it for you, then try scanning the instructions and make it a web page, then use Google's translater to give the English version of the symbols. Google toolbar is a free add-on to IE and works great on web pages in foreign languages. |

This would be a good magical way to vanish the silk, instead of the old classic TT. I do not currently own this Mak Magic product. So if someone knows the quality of the Flash Silk Vanishing Wand, please post your thoughts.

In the earlier version I have seen..the silks must be put prior to your performance, but with this version actually you can produce the 2 silks from other prop, then inserting into the holes.
