Dallas, TX pro and Regional VP Dal Sanders has been nominated for S.A.M. Second VP. For those who know him, no endorsement is necessary. For those who don't know him, I personally believe that Dal is an ideal choice as an active and supportive leader to boost up this ladder. Please consider supporting Dal in the upcoming elections.

I had a chance to speak with Dal at TAOM. He is the current RVP for the South Cental States, so we've had many discussions about membership in the past. I support Dal and know he would support my team next year.

Greetings, I have a couple of questions.....on a separate thread it was stated that the SAM does not hold memberships for publication, I am curious as to when that changed? Part of the membership process for years was giving the magic community notice that someone was applying for application in case someone knew of a legitimate and good reason an applicant shouldn't be permitted membership.
The second question is, I know Dal and I realize per the above posts that he has been nominated; are nominations still being taken from any assembly or individual who wishes to run for any office (except President) until March? Just curious. Keep a dream in the making Maria Ibanez |

Maria, the S.A.M. Constitution (at least the copy I've downloaded from the S.A.M. website) still requires member applicant publication for objections before approval: Article III, Sect. 6. I.B.M. has the same requirement.
The website's version of the constitution also still shows the cut-off date for assembly nominations for national officers up to pres-elect as March 1st: Article IV, Sect. 4 & 5. Aside from that - I figgered you and Mark would know more than I, Madam President Past. I stand ready to be corrected. Skipster

Greetings, hey Skip, no correction needed to you....there's nothing wrong with announcing that Dal is nominated, he is a good man and reading Mark's post will be a good part of his team.
I was just curious as to the cut-off for nominations and I've been asked before whether anyone can be nominated for any position, which they can. Anyone can be nominated by their assemblies for any position except the position of President which is the only chair that is automatic from President-Elect to President; all other chairs and positions are available for nomination up to and until March 1st of every year. As far as the membership being published for possible objection, I was pretty sure that was the case but because of Mark's post of the SAM not waiting for publication for approval and with him being the Chair of membership, I wondered if there had been constitutional changes I had not heard about. Thank you for clarifying that Skip. By the way, if I haven't said so to you, I'd like to tell you here publicly, THANK YOU for all you do for magic and magicians....you are a dynamo and I am very appreciative of you. It appears the position of President-Elect requires the nomination from an Assembly, whereas nominations for the other elected positions can come from an Assembly OR a current National Officer. In any case, follow the Constitution, found at magicsam.com under "about the SAM" tab.

A huge thank you to Skip Way for announcing my nomination for Second Vice President of The Society of American Magicians here on The Magic Café (and on a couple of other forums as well). Skip and I have discussed the advantages of "viral marketing" over the years...I guess that this is "Viral Campaigning".
I also want to thank Mark Weidhaas for his kind words and support as well as all the other people who have sent me personal messages and e-mails. Your support is appreciated. Most of all I want to thank The Society of American Magicians Assembly 13, Dallas, Texas for nominating me for the office of Second Vice President. Their faith in me is only matched by the faith of all the other people in the S.A.M. who have been encouraging me for years to step up and assume a leadership role. After much discussion with my wife Cinde and my 2 sons, I feel that the time is finally right for me to take that step and to do whatever I can to help grow the Society and to strengthen the middle word of our Kabala. I am talking about the “Unity” of the S.A.M. motto Magic-Unity-Might. I see “Magic” as the cornerstone of our organization. It is the thing that brings us together in the first place. And we have “Might” because of our combined strength as a group. However the glue that holds the Magic and the Might together is our “Unity”. This is our ethos and I believe that it is the very thing that separates The Society of American Magicians from other fraternal groups of entertainers. I respect and revere the Society of American Magicians and its history and I am humbled by this nomination. I also feel that I am up to the challenge of leading the world’s oldest and most prestigious magic organization. If I can do anything for this organization it will be to increase the awareness of the many programs of the S.A.M. and to spread the message of Magic, Unity and Might to magicians everywhere. I believe that when more magicians fully understand this message, our membership will increase. Of course, this message can only be spread through continued communication and expanded publicity. After over 30 years as a professional magician and over 20 years as a member of the S.A.M. I feel that I am ready to spread that word, help the membership grow and to take my place as a leader of this fine organization. I have said all of this before but I believe it bears repeating...This is what I stand for, this is who I am. ...and in the words of Dennis Miller, This is just MY opinion, I could be wrong. Hi All,
Dal has hit the nail on the head in what our motto means. Magic Unity and Might. I have known him for a while and he practices what he preaches. I wish him all the best with his campaign. Magically Kelly |

Good luck with your campaign, Dal!
I've known Dal for a few years. He's been an asset to the S.A.M. National Council as a hard-working, caring, friendly, get-it-done & get it done on time RVP. I'm sure we'll continue to see this attitude as he moves up the chairs and works to help the S.A.M. grow and prosper. Marlene Clark S.A.M. National Secretary |
