These cards are pretty popular and well-known in the UK. I wonder if our overseas friends know of them, and, if so, how popular are they where you live? Probably there are, in any event, equivalent pictorial cards in many countries, if not Top Trumps per se.
I'm thinking there are some nice alternatives to regular playing cards in these packs, especially for the very young (I like the idea of the 'dogs' set, looks really cute!) and that one could prepare and manipulate them just the same as regular playing cards. |

I’ve never heard of Top Trumps (in the U.S.) but that may not mean much. I don’t really pay attention to some things. According to Wikipedia they are available here (and many other countries), with a number of “exclusive” sets available ONLY in a particular country.
I think your idea is a good one. Anything that can be handled as a card can probably be used for a playing card effect. Even 3x5 file cards will work for some things. And for specific targeted audiences, the pictures might add a great deal to your effects. Good thinking!
...what if I could read your mind?

Thanks! Yeah, the whole Pokemon (and other collector cards) thing that the kids were into kind of registered dimly on my mental radar at the time... I guess Top Trumps were my generation's equivalent, and remarkably are still going strong.
There are quite a few appealing Top Trumps decks, although I think the 'dogs' pack has no 'gender bias' ie) should appeal equally to boys and girls alike. And, for magic with adults also, there's the 'nostalgia factor' of the cards, and a picture of a cute doggie is a good psychological bonus in winning spectators over |
