I thought this was the best place to ask this.
I have an idea for a new routine and might be interested in making y own color scheme mouth coil. If anybody has info on this, please let me know. Thanks in advance! Regards, jef

I saw somewhere where one takes paper coils from "adding machines" from Staples/Office Max and using a band saw slicing them down into smaller coils.
Also I saw or read where someone took surveyors tape and using a variable speed drill wound these tapes into coils. I never did these but thought it was interesting reading.

It would indeed be interesting reading about how others may have accopmplished this. However, I would also have to agree that you would probably save a lot more money and hassle getting from cresey.com or having them custom make some for you if you needed something to fit a certain theme in your show.

I haven't contacted Cressy but I do use his jumbo ones right now, but didn't think about custom colors.
I will try to contact him. Thanks for the info guys. I still would like to find that DVD just to see how they are made.

David is no longer in the business. However, the coils and his business line is still very much around. A guy by the name of John (forget last name) is now running it and it is called cresey.com. You can go there and he will be sure to answre your email or phone call.

Julie Varholdt ( lovelybuttons@cox.net ) wrote an article for the KIDabra Journal on making your own coils. Drop her a note and I'm sure she'll send you a copy.

I can't beat free, but Eleazar Goodenough has been making mouth coils for all the Wiz Kids for the past four years, based on the instructions included in his book "Tear-Able Magic" on my site. Making the mouth coils is easy... it's what you do with them afterwards that counts!

I made some of my own coils using the article Skip mentions that was written by Julie Varholdt for the Kidabra Journal. It worked ! So far, I have only made white coils, but I plan to start experimenting with other colors once I get past the rush of Christmas shows. They really aren't hard to make, and there are SO many things you can do with them. The age group I work with goes nuts for these, and always wants to keep the unfurled coil for a souvenir !

I've made them before and they are easy to make. If you use adding machine paper you can really make them as long as you want with very little hassle.
I just don't remember where I learned how.

There's some tips and ideas on this thread:
--> Magic Café thread titled... Home......treamers and this thread: --> Magic Café thread titled... Mouth coils - Donald P.S. When doing a search, I read on one of the other threads that the DVD you might be seeking is called Paper Magic with Tony Hassini (from his organization, The IMS). Apparently, he teaches how to make mouth coils on that DVD.
Donald Dunphy is a Victoria Magician, British Columbia, Canada.

Be VERY CAREFUL when cutting your own mouth coils...a trip to the emergency room and your left hand stitched up makes for a long weekend of parties and balloon twisting....trust me, I know!
