Been there, hope everything works out, meanwhile break a leg.

Brett, sorry to hear about the wreck. Hope you are alright and will recover. As others have already given you some good advice, I will put my two cents in as well.
Insurance companies look to see who is at fault in situations such as this. Without proper documentation, the insurance companies have to determine who is at fault, instead of the law enforcement officer. I have gone to court on similar situations where either the vehicle or bicycle was at fault and made that determination through the statutes of law here. Second, your health is important. Getting checked out now and also a little later is important to document injuries sustained from this incident. Some people have come back later wanting a police report due to feeling "compensation setting in". The insurance companies may feel since you did not make a report that day, you could be doing the same. Some police agencies may not make a report due to the time factor. Some will not do a report later on if you say you want it for insurance purposes. This is my experience with this and just wanted to warn you of what could happen when not making the report on the day it occurred. Last, be aware of your surroundings. People in vehicles do not look for people riding bikes, especially if the driver is an older person. I hope all works out for you and this will not diminish your talent. Keep us posted on the progress you make with recovery and the aftermath of all this. Happy Holidays to all. Glenn

Normally I avoid cops, Brett listen to this officer.
In addition, here in Philadelphia there is a real problem with bicyclists. The law says no bikes on sidewalks unless you walk them. There are a few bike lanes here and there. I'd wager to say that over 90% of Phila. cyclists do not wear helmets, NEVER obey traffic devices and always are indignant of the fact that they believe the road belongs to them. You a pedestrian crossing an intersection at a green light? Well get out of the way, because I rid a bike and will mow you down as I run a red. That's the mentality here. So, when I read in the paper about a biker who got hit by a car, chances are they were the cause of their own demise. The mayor is trying to enforce the traffic laws on cyclists, but they have organizations trying to do the opposite (i.e. allow them to treat a stop sign as a yield sign, red lights as stop signs, etc.).

The cyclist to whom Nipps refers, was hit by a guy who was texting the details of a drug deal.

I was not texting... I was figuring out the mathematical details of the deal.

For drugs you use the metric system. Powers of ten.

Funny thing about how poorly educated kids in the ghetto and how bad they are at math but they can tell you how many grams in an ounce.

I knew a kid who couldn't form a proper sentence but he could make a pipe out of anything, gerbil water bottles, gum wrappers, anything. Plus he cooked up a lot of different things which I would think required some basic chemistry skills. It's odd. I don't know if it's just the thrill of doing something 'bad' or what.
I hate authority too, that's why I avoid prison. Gee, I can go to jail and have my entire life ruled by other people, or I can go to college and run my own clinic. Not a tough choice. I think I'm off topic. Let me go back to it. Um... if you're gonna' get hit by a car, don't have your gerbil bottle pipe on you.
