In the past, I had popped in here to find news related to our art in its many forms. I've recently heard that it is actually intended for Gossip and Rumor. Is that what you, as a Café member, look for in "Did You Hear the Latest?" Just curious.

To hear the latest news, not interested in gossip or rumor. That and I like to hear what you have going on, and this is where you post.
You know why don't act naive.

Haven't you heard? Gossip and rumors are news!
But, I would concur with HerbLarry.

That was my thought as well. Obviously, the users do not dictate policy on the Café, but I was surprised that virtually every topic in this area has been locked and moved to areas that (in my mind) were not the best place for them based upon the content.

I've popped in here for the same reason you have, but I always check out "Magic names and the media" at the same time and wonder what the reasoning is for some posts to be in one and some in the other. I think it actually makes more sense to reserve this one for gossip and rumors, just like the description says, and that most of the posts in here actually belong in "Magic names and the media". If this really were just rumours and gossip I would rarely check it out, but maybe once in a while for the same reason I look at The Globe when I'm in line at the grocery store ;-)
I never check out "A tangled web we weave" and in my opinion Dodd's posts have been moved to the wrong forum, they should be in "Magic names and the media" which "... Topics may include.... radio interviews, etc." |

As far as things being moved, it's the Mod's discretion. Many times threads can contain info or discussion that could belong in more than one forum. You'll notice that 'Did you hear the latest,' 'A tangled web we weave,' and 'Magic names and the media' are all under 'General Magic'; I believe that's because the topics can be so closely related. Luckily, though, if something's been moved, a link is usually left in its place for at least several days. But again, it's the Mod's discretion of whether he or she feels the discussion is best served being elsewhere.

Same thoughts as James above. I love The Magic Café and check this catagory out almost daily to find out the "latest." Much appreciated!

I check here for the latest news, but now I go to MagicNewswire.com for all the latest news.
Actually, come to think of it, I'd like to see this forum turned into a forum for us to discuss articles, news, and the podcasts on MagicNewswire.com Seriously.

Dodd,
Not all of us are connedted (in the magic world). Even though this is in large part gossip it does give me a sense of whats going on. Knowing, that is, that only a small portion of what we read here is exact fact. I may not be stating this very clearly but I hope you get my drift. On a side note I know Cameron and thought that he did a great job on your this week in magic discussion. I understand you will have another friend of mine on next week. Another New England guy. If this is a secret I will stop now. Pete |

Thanks Phaddad.
As I mentioned when I first posted this, I had always looked upon this particular area of the Café as the place to go to get news, not just rumor and gossip. Based on the feedback here and via private message, it seems that I was correct. In any case, thank you so much for listening to the Magic Newswire podcast and for visiting the site. Any and every email, donation and forum post supporting MagicNewswire.com is very very welcome! While I am on the topic, I have touched on this previously, but I continue to hope that anyone that likes what I am doing will send me an email or PM to let me know who they'd like to hear from and what questions they would like answered during an interview on the podcast. I am sure that the conversation will continue tomorrow night when we record the next This Week In Magic. There is no secret. In addition to Scott Wells, Cameron Ramsay and myself, new panel member Chase Goforth will join us. Our special guest will be CJ Johnson to talk about marketing yourself as a magic performer. In addition, we'll have a guest co-host, Al the Only, who is visiting Scott this weekend. Should prove to be an interesting mix of personalities! Thank you all for your support! ___________________________________________ Our Most Recent Podcasts: • This Week in Magic #2 :: Brian Brushwood • This Week in Magic #1 :: Jim Callahan • Spirit of Magic #178 :: Julie Eng • Spirit of Magic #177 :: Aaron Fisher |

Dodd,
I do believe that someday these interviews will be listened to with the same feeling of nostalgia that we get from watching the OLD guys when they performed on the old TV shows. Pete |
