Graet Ron, that's cool.
If there is a single truth about Magic, it is that nothing on earth so efficiently evades it.

I'm so happy for you!
Take Al up on his generous offer! I still don't listen to ipod, but I have Satellite radio, and I listen to it all the time! All the classic rock, and I even like all the New Rock, the hard core stuff, and I am 50! Wow, a whole new world of music to be discovered! Concerts! My next to favorite thing, magic being first! Congratulations! ACE

It's kind of funny because up until a few months ago I had no idea what an iPod was. I mean I saw them but I just figured they where small radios. So much has changed in the world including sounds since I could hear. So I never had any interest in all these "sound devices" until my curiosity of sound was awakened because of getting this Cochlear Implant.

We don't get telemarketers here in the US. We have a national "don't call" list and I havent had a call like that for years.

I just wanted to stop in to first thank you all for your support and encouragement in this life altering adventure I've been going through this year.
I also want to fill you all in on how things are going now. My hearing, or rather my ability to comprehend sound has dramatically increased this past month. So much that if you and I where to talk face to face right now you might not even know I have any hearing issues. Well, if you never meet me before you might come to the conclusion that I do have hearing loss because I do still have a hard time with some voices and I still need things repeating from time to time. But a stranger who meets me right now might not know I've been deaf for 20 years and just started hearing again a few months ago. Having said that I also know I've still got a long way to go. My implant is still only turned up to about 50% so I'm not hearing what I hear as loudly as "Normal" hearing people. So by next year it'll be even better. Heck, I'll be able to hear better next week then I do today. I constantly notice sounds getting clearer and clearer. I've even managed to make some phone calls. The phone is still challenging and I need to practice at it too. My ability to hear what's being said to me over the phone isn't my only obstacle. It may seem hard to believe but talking on the phone is almost a scary thing to me. It kind of feels like stage freight to me. I really have to build up the nerve to attempt to make a call because it's been so long since I've talked to anyone that I wasn't face to face with. So, if any of you would ever be willing to practice with me let me know. I don't have plans to call anyone right now but it would be great when I do have the nerve up about it to have some people to call and try. What I was thinking is I could text and ask 'Are you free for a few minutes?" to make sure I find someone at a good time. But anyway, that's just an idea. I'd first work with people I know before tackling people I don't that well yet anyway. I'm hearing music now but it's still not all that clear to me. If I know the song I can fallow along and sometimes I can even identify what song I'm hearing by sound alone. But the notes aren't all that clear yet. The sounds are kind of jumbled but it's getting better and better. I keep having to reminds myself that I'm still in "Baby steps" and as much as I'm thrilled at what I'm hearing now. I still can't imagine what it's going to be like in a few months or next year. One other things I realize is how much the world has changed as far as sounds since I could hear. I told my friend the other day that it seems like the world is now made of beeps. Everything beeps or plays music today. Since I got this implant I've yet to hear a phone ring. The ATM, the check out lines, the gas pump, even my stove beeps. I think I might find a real old phone that rings, record it's ringing and use it as a ring tone. Because when my phone goes off I don't think about a phone I'm hearing. I think I'm hearing a radio. LOL I can't wait to go to some magic conventions and hang out with magicians. Be neat to really be a part of that instead of being on the side lines in a sense. Don't get me wrong. I've loved hanging out with magicians at magic gatherings for years but this year it's going to be a very different experience for me. So if you see me, be sure and come talk to me. Thanks again. About being face to face and having people repeat stuff, I do that all the time, so don't worry about it. It is something a lot of us do. Here in the south we say "whaaaat?' Or "excuse me?" I'm sure you can come up with clever things to say to get people to repeat. All the different accents I get on the phone when I book shows, I just ask people to spell it for me. I think it was in the memory book to ask someone their name twice to impress it in your brain.
It sounds like you are doing great! I hope to meet you one day. Remember I'm also a clown, so I will have to do something silly. ACE
