OK....I don't think I've ever posted this kind of thing here, but here goes:
Yesterday, from a friend, I purchased a little gaffed card bit. It uses 3 cards: one blank face, and two red spot cards. It also has an odd little gaff which is essentially the upper half of two cards (a red spot card and a black queen) taped together near the top......I think you're supposed to pluck the little gimmick off and ring it out during performance. Could anyone give me any guidance here? No instuctions were included.

Now THAT's sound indeed but maybe his friend also buys things he doesn't know the use of...

Maybe the friend thought: 'My friend is a magician, so I'll buy him a trick. Mr. Magic Shop Owner, do you have a nice trick, not too expansive, please.' So the friend bought a card trick and give it to Paul. Now Paul has a trick he doesn't understand, not really his own fault.

Wow....a'lot of hyperbole over one little legitimate question.....to those who chastised me (and don't even know me)"Thanks, but save it next time."
To those who stuck up for me and don't even know me, "Thanks, I'll take the help any ol' time on this everyman-for-himself-thing-called-the-interweb." Now, um, the question: any ideas? I bought it for a buck. It was in my friend's box of stuff.....a homemade trick. Any info (minus input on my spending habits) would be appreciated.

Hi Paul. Any idea what the actual effect is supposed to be? If I have an idea what the thing should look like to the audience, it would be easier to help determine the method.

Like most of you (I hope) I don't buy something just to know the secret, but because I'll be USING it. So if it doesn't suit me, I just do not buy it. In the meantime I know a few dealers pretty well and they trust me so they often share with me the workings of an effect I might be interested in. Then I know if I ought ot buy it or not. But buying some gaff you absolutely have NO idea what it's for... nope, never done that. but hey! you're free to do what you want of course, it just seems weird to me to buy things you don't know what to do with... my own opinion. I'm glad he only spend a buck for it though, that justifies the buy a little I guess. And sorry, I've no idea what this can be, otherwise I would have helped. It vaguely make me think of something but I can't remember exactly what. Now our friend tell us that it's a "homemade trick" so if he bought a trick from his friend who built this prop himself, I guess there's only one person who can help him. |

If it only cost you one dollar, then I understand you took the chance. But I also think your friend has the key to this trick. Why don't you take a photo of the gaff to show it to us?

It is probably called "The Wandering Card". You load the little gimmick on topp of the odd card..thus hiding the blank card. Now place one red card on top and one red card underneath and place in your hand and spread them ..up and down-wise ..like a ladder. spectator sees 3 cards, the blank one is hidden. turn hand palm down and pull out top card, then bottom card , then you are left with the gimmick and blank card (gimmick being in perfect palming position) now strip out blank card and place it down on table as your dirty hand goes south, ditching gimmick. Show the middle card has changed to blank. Hope this helps. Trois
Not clever enough to come up with something orginal, or did I.

You know what......I think that's it. Thank you. Wow, an answer. Just a plain old answer.....without scolding or chastising (none of which was requested, mind you).
Thank you so much. A very nice gesture indeed.
