I'm looking for some mini envelopes just a hair bigger than a playing card. Something close to 2.5" x 3.5". Anyone?

Try Office Depot, Office Max or Staples. I was looking for envelopes about the same size and found them.
You can also Google for an online source that might be cheaper. http://www.envelopemall.com/SearchResult.aspx?CategoryID=76 You shouldn't have any problem finding these.

Look for pay or coin envelopes.

Here's another source. There 2 5/8 x 3 5/8. They come in many different colors, including metallic colors.

These envelopes are hardly rare. Try a print shop if you are pressed for time.

2.5 X 3.5 coin envelopes are very rare. they're almost exclusively 2.25 X 3.5. Be careful, I finally found a company that said they carried 2.5 X 3.5 and ordered from them. Sure enough, when they arrived they were 2.25 X 3.5.

The envelopes mentioned by Motown, Roger and Voldemort above are shaped like letter envelopes, and if that works for you, they look like a great solution. On the other hand, you may require envelopes that open at the end, which are called coin envelopes or pay envelopes. The standard coin envelope closest to Poker size is the #4 coin envelope,(3 X 4.5). Staples and Office depot frequently stock #3 coin envelopes(2.25 X 3.5)which are a close fit for Bridge size, but far too small for Poker size. For some reason, #4 envelopes have become extremely scarce. Here is one source, but they aren't cheap in small quantities. You might want to get some magician friends to go in with you on 1000 to get the price break:

I've actually got a box of a couple hundred Staples #3 envelopes that are actually 2.5 x 3.5. The only problem is that they are EXACTLY the width of a playing card so there is too much tension to get a card in or out comfortably. When I need to use one I generally take it apart and put it back together so it is about 2mm larger width wise and it really makes all the difference--both a perfect fit and comfortable insertion/removal of card from the envelope.
It's generally more hassle than it's worth so I typically stick with my #4 envelopes.

But for other effects that require an envelope that opens from the end, I do use a regular coin envelope. However the OP seemed to be looking for an envelope that was just a bit larger than a playing card, Thus my recomendation. I've never been able to find a envelope that was that close to a playing cards size unless it was modified as Steven posted above.
