Hi all,
I was wondering what you all think are the most magical moments in rope routines. Think about all of the rope tricks/routines you know or have seen. What are the moments that are the strongest to the audience? I'm not talking about what are the best "routines", but rather the most surprising parts of routines you know or have seen. I'll start: 1. Knot popping off of the middle of the rope 2. Sliding knot 3. Tabary's small rope melting onto the larger rope |

The first phase of many rope routines is a quick C & R where you see the rope actually cut (the magician often says something like "I'm going to fast for you") and the rope is instantly restored with an comment like "I'll start over." That restoration at the "I'll start over" is most magical. No extra pieces of rope lying around, no shortening of the rope, no knots, just a clean cut and bang, the rope is back together.

Hands down... seeing Doug Henning to Paul Curry's sliding knot. I was devastated when I saw him slide that knot and untie it in the new location.

I do a single rope routine mainly using fibre optics moves. The two moves I find really kick are when I cut the rope with my fingers then restore it. I do as a explain the C+R trick then explain I have no siccors so I only have one piece of rope. Then I find as I finish my last move were the ends jump from my pocket to my hand then I throw the rope out that kind of really stuns people that I can just give it away.
Also a ring hooking on to rope then leaving as well.
Enjoy your magic,
and let others enjoy it as well! |

The professor's nightmare where they all go to the same size is very magical.
sliding a knot off the rope many of the fiber optics moves are sensational (excuse the pun) Darl's Acrobatic Knot also has some great moments. especially when the white knot slides back and forth on the red rope and then melts onto the red rope as part of the rope. wow. (is that a tabary original? not sure?). the first 2 typical phase of a c/r with scissors where you get a complete rope back each time. wow. ropes are our friends. It took me a while to work in the PN routine but I'm go glad I took the plunge back when I did.

I was setting at an Abbott's Magic Get-Together watching another wonderful evening of magic. Daryl was the M.C., I think, but he came on and did his rope routine. From beginning to end, I was in glued to his presentation, catching every word and effect, watching delivery and listing to his patter.
I had heard about this effect for years but never witnessed it live. I was captivated by this little piece of rope and movements being performed with it. At the end, I said to myself, not that is what a rope routines should be, I immediately bought the printed poster, and started going through the text and pictures. I soon found out that there was no way to learn from this incomplete treatise on his routine. His witty humor and expert handling stood out in my mind still today. Another best is Meir Yedid's presentation of Aldo Colombini's Knotty Knot routine. This was also at an Abbott's Magic Get-Together evening show. From the start, this little piece of white rope holds your attention, just when you think 'Oh, who is this fooling, "BAM" the red knot appears and throws you to the floor. Then when you still think this is nothing, the knot is untied and "WOW" the section of rope where the knot was is now Red. Magic for magicians and lay audiences, now that is rope magic. I cannot figure out why this simple rope routine, and it is a routine stands out and captivates the audience with magic and mystery. It is a simple plot and yet it looks magical when performed. I did purchase this routine and it is fun to practice as well as perform. But yet, I cannot figure out why. |

As far as magical moments, for me is when I show PN ropes to be all the same. For real. But the most magical for
me was having a five year old girl blow on the rope knot and it popped off, and the knot landed on the bridge of her nose.

Daryl removing the knot from the rope, having it examined, and then throwing the knot back on...very nice...

Three equal length of ropes are each shown separate and then are tied together, and then both knots are pulled off and thrown into the audience, and the rope is shown restored into one long rope.

Tying a rope around your neck and then pulling it right through without harming yourself. And the knot popping off. That's so fun to do!
Didn't your mother ever tell you not to believe anything you hear and only half of what you see?

Yes David. I must agree with you. After my C & R Rope Routine I use the resting piece of rope for the rope through neck effect and when timed correctly it get's a AHH reaction from the audience.
Oliver. P.S. : I'm not using the knot. |

I've always liked putting the ends of the rope back onto the endless rope. See Tabary on World's Greatest Magic.
