Hi,does anyone know if the 21 card trick, on these two DVD's are the same routine or, are there variations?
Thank you. |

No, the Ammar trick is, if I remember, you have 21 cards in your hand, you fan them, they pick one and replace it. You count 7 cards into your other hand then put them on the table, do this three times. You ask which pile their card is in, they say first. You then pick up the first pile and with false counts, there's only six cards there and eight cards in the others and their card has gone. This goes on, then there's a double lift at the end to magically make it appear. There's some obvious card controlling going on at the beginning, counting and double undercutting etc..
Malone's is a lot lot better. |

I've not seen the Ammar version but I know Malone's is worth the watch. He gives several variations as well. It's a good section, in my opinion.

Malone's performance of it is on youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9zpXdoZv9sY
There was a subtle bit in the second phase that really puzzled me how he forced the card, it's so so so so simple but took me a while to figure out. Nice stuff. |

It doesn't always work the way you see it in video clip.
Luckily there is a good method if "Scotty" is not your spectator! Phase 3 is a bit of a giveaway in my oppinnion. P.S. Im using different shuffle runs for 2nd phase so their card comes out halfway up a row as oppossed to top or bottom of row. |

P.S. Im NOT implying Scotty was a stooge,it"s just Scotty will be used to shuffling like that but most Laymen might not.

Jim Swain has a great version which fools many people who know the original very badly. It is in his book 21st century card tricks.

Check out "42" and "21 Again" at the Mall of Magic's IBM Card Corner section. Both are quick, easy, foolers.

Chris Kenner has a good version called "Must be 21" to Enter in his Totally Out Of Control book. The spectator gets to shuffle the 21 cards into the deck after making his selection and yet the performer can still quickly find the card
