I arrived at a show on Saturday and had to wait as the mother had all the kids lined up to go to the bathroom (toilet). She explained to me that her son had laughed so much last time he'd seen my show he'd wet himself so she wasn't taking any chances and got all the kids to pee before the show!!
It's kinda weird. Should I include this as a standard warning to bookers? Is it good publicity or bad publicity? |

It's definatly not bad publicity, it shows you care, and have a good knowledge of children's needs.
At parties I always say to the kids while they're eating that it's now a good time to go to the loo as they don't want to miss any of the show. I've done this since I was at a playgroup and a boy put his hand up during the show and said "I need a wee!" this was echoed by all the others saying "so do I" "so do I" "so do I". I had to stop the show while they all went. At other shows if neccessary I say to the booker when I arrive that it's a good Idea to do a toilet run. Most good places are one step ahead anyway. There's an old saying that if when the kids get up after the show, there is a puddle on the floor, it's a sign you've made it in this business

Just curious MagicGeorge what age group were you performing for and what routine(s) do you think made the kids laugh so hard to make them piddle? I have actually seen one bloke do this this with the ladies at a show years ago and it started a "chain reaction" if you know what I mean. He even had trouble getting things under control for several minutes due to his laughing/choking and crying. He did get a repeat show the following year and was the talk of the crowd that night and I am sure weeks after.

I've had a kid wet thereself more than once while assisting with the show, They were so excited at being picked they didn't want to miss out on any of the fun. They gave no clues, (no little dance holding themselves etc) The important thing is, if this happens not to make a big thing of it, disceetly give the booker or one of the mum's the nod, and they will sort them out. if you make a big thing and highlight it, it can knock their confidence and upset them. or cause their mates to make fun of them.
By co-incidence the first time me and Billy used the mats I've mentioned before, as a discipline aid during the show we both had kids wee on them.
