Is "Any Questions?" by Garret Thomas a collection of very difficult routines? Does the coin work involve a lot of classic Palm?
I have volume 1 of Troy Hooser's DVD's, and I'm wondering if the three fly on this video is better? Also is this video a better investment than David Stone volume 1? Thanks. The reason I asked is because I heard that he has some useful advice on the flipper coin. I'm still trying to figure out how to open it without flicking in open ala Hooser. Some people suggested the Scotch tape method so that you can just open it up with your middle finger. But then the coin becomes totally unexaminable, and when Its edge is on to the spectator they can get a glimpse of the flipper insert. If someone can help me figure this out, I would be very grateful. |

The answer to your questions is NOPE. Stick with Stone or Hooser.

Not for the 3fly, but the Finger Thing and the Coin in Purse are amazing eye candy!

Having seen Garret Thomas lecture and perform, I would say that his material is top notch.
He did mention that he is working on 2 DVD's to be released later on this year or early next year. Garret fooled me badly with his coin work and he is a very entertaining performer.

I just saw him lecture last week and bought the video. His routines are very well constructed. They're not easy, but they're well thought out.
For example, I'd have to say that his handling of the pen through quarter will become an industry standard. You will absolutely not see any switch. If you're into jumbo coin productions, his handling of a jumbo coin from purse is a goal worth pursuing. The thing I liked about his 3 fly, is that the hands never touch each other - ever. No jokes to cover switchs or anything. Just plan and simple, he's got 3 coins in one hand, and 1, 2, 3 they vanish and and reappear in the other. I doubt I'll ever be able to do it, but it sure was fun to watch. So I guess the answer to your questions are; Yes, No more than most coin routines, Yes (IMHO), and, don't know, haven't seen it. |

The answer to your specific question re 3Fly is so subjective, I don't have an opinion.
But... ...Garrett Thomas is the Real Deal super sleight of hand wunderkind. "Big Coin, Little Purse" is one of the greatest routines I've seen any magician do in the last twenty years. It's Real Magic. So his 3Fly is worth checking out. Only you can decide on where to go from there. Steve H

As Mack10 said ,Garrett is really skilled and I know from his contact juggling sequence at the start that this guy practises a lot.I thought this part of the tape was excellent.
The rest of the tape is pretty good. Ring Thing. The best ring to finger I've seen, and pretty easy to do. Threasy. Nice production of three coins from seemingly nowhere. It's not too difficult to do and Garrett gives useful advice on the gimmick. His coin roll down the arm is a good juggling move. GT 3 Fly. Looks great as mentioned in an above post. Big Coin Little Purse. Great to look at as well. His other routines are all entertaining. Chappelly |
