Hi all, I just got some worn Morgan dollars from the 1880s and I'd like to find a decent quality expanded shell for a few effect with them. Does anyone know a competitively priced machinist or suppler?
Also, what would it cost if I supply the coin myself? |

Lassen or Schoolcraft are my personal top choices for Morgan silver dollar gaffs.
If you supply your own coin, you might get a lower price. I've never done that, so I can't be sure. Both machinists have websites you can browse through. Good luck!

If you do choose to supply the coin yourself, I recommend sending all your coins to the craftsman and allow them to choose the most suitable for the work. I have done this with some truly beautiful results from Mr. Lassen. I have also seen examples of Mr. Schoolcraft's work on several occasions, and these look quite nice too... but I personally have not worked with them.

Go for Lassen! You will not regret it. Already ordered a second expanded shell set from him! Good stuff

Mr. Lassen's set is for sure a top notch if we are talking about coin gaffs but quite expensive and for sure some of us here can't buy from him. May I ask where to buy a good expanded morgan shell? I saw some morgan shell in Magicwarehouse and it cost not more that $100. Does anyone here already bought this shell from them? Is it a good quality shell?

Johnson now makes an Expanded Morgan Dollar Shell for less than $70.

Every time I have emailed lassen about his products he never responds. This has happened twice now.

Todd responded to the only email I sent to him; took just about a week, which isn't bad. I imagine it depends on his workload at the time - he runs a one man show AFAIK.
Calling is a better idea. Jim |
