This is going to be really cool to see what happens. It has like.. 5 different markets it's trying to cater too.
It has the ereader market, which it does do better than most ereaders. The sony's are super nice but more expensive. The kindle is cheapest buy lacks a lot of things. Anymore, most companies like magazinse and newspapers which would be perfect for ereaders, want to make color and interactive versions. You can't do that on normal ereaders. The problem here is that most people who want ereaders, and the serious readers, already bought them! Apple needs to convince them to shell out money again for their device instead. This is also great for photographers. I know people who spend a few hundred on stuff like.. digital picture frames, or even devices to hold digital pictures for showing. This does all that but better. It can be a digital picture frame (and a sweet one at that) if put in the dock. It can also hold sort, and edit all your photos directly off your camera. Some people can use it for trade shows. I know Jamie Schoolcraft was talking about using it for conventions to demo videos on. That would be great, and not much more than a personal DVD player. It would also be more practical and functional. It is trying to win the student market with textbooks. This will be a huge hurdle to overcome, but if they can, it will be amazing. Textbooks are horridly expensive and if there was a way to rent, or even just buy them digitally it would save students hundreds to thousands of dollars. But why would companies want to sell them there instead of making the money they would make otherwise with hard copies? They also have schools that put out their own copies, or have special editions, or even just small obscure books. So not all would easily be available. Then comes the netbook market. When people say netbook, they usually want something they can solely check email and type on. I think this does that the best too. The onscreen keyboard may not be the best, but you can't beat apple's stand alone keyboards like on the dock. The apps they built around iWork are near full copies. That is incredible. If they could port more applications like that... it would be perfect. netbooks are probably going to run slower. Plus, you won't have itunes. Itunes takes a lot of power, and probably won't run well on a netbook. So it will kind of suck to not have your music with you on a netbook. The iPad has that hybrid iPod player which looks great, and syncs with your iTunes. The iPad has so much potential. I think it could do good, if it gets developed right. If people look at it as a giant iPhone, it will fail. But if people look at it like it is, a scaled down computer, it may do well. The 30 pin adapter can be used for anything. It can have attachments that take pictures, it can have attachments that print, it can do anything at all. As long as their is an app to support it. You can plug USB into it using Apples adapter. You can use USB cards. It really is more of a full computer than it appears. Which may be an issue. It does have some big drawbacks such as no flash support. But I don't use flash nearly as much anymore. HTML 5 is kicking butt. It really is taking over. Some sites like hulu would be nice to use but they are apparently making iPhone versions anyway! So much less of a problem anymore. I guess only time will tell. If Apple makes good marketing choices, and it takes hold in some of the several markets its going for, this device could be killer. And remember. This is a first gen iPad! Remember the first iPhone? That sucked! Now look at it! The next generation should be 10 times as good. |

Regarding the deficiencies, we can think a lot of things, but if we think Apple didn't consider all of them we are mistaken. Can you say "Ipad II"?
Also known, when doing rope magic, as "Cordini"
