Hey Everyone,
I have a table made out of a cymbol stand. Here is a picture of the stand that I started with. http://www.2112online.com/cgi/shop/detail.cgi?r=BSXCS600 Has anyone ever tried to shorten one of these stands? The table height is adjustable, but I would like it to begin at about half of its starting height. Has anyone had any experience modifying one of these stands? Thanks in advance... Tony |

Okay, after looking at it more closely... half the height is not realistic, but I think I should be able to lower it about 7 inches without affecting any of its functionality. So far I have removed a rivet at the bottom of the center pole. I thought that would release the pole at the lower end allowing me to cut off 7 inches at the bottom, but I haven't got it to release yet. Anyone with experience at this feel free to chime in.

I would look at removing the locking collar and then shortening the main post from the top. Any type of hacksaw would do the trick. For a really straight line use a rolling pipe cutter from Home Depot. The collar should go right back, easy peasey.

Thanks Chance - I just finished & it looks good. I was worried about removing the locking collar on the top. I'm still not sure how to take that thing off. I was able to cut the bar off from the bottom. It worked out fine, easy peasey, sort of!

Here are a few pictures in a photobucket. Nothing too special.

Looks a little top heavy. How does it feel to you?
But what I'm most curious to know is which technique you used to fix the box to the stand? |

Here is the picture of the attachment method.
http://s889.photobucket.com/albums/ac96/......nect.jpg It is a metal flag pole bracket. See it here... http://www.lowes.com/pd_246522-85418-246......ent=7=47 I made a table top out of a silver picture frame and put a close up pad in the picture. I attached the wood back of the picture to the flag pole bracket. The case just sits on the table. When the case is open, it is top heavy & if bumped it could fall, that's why I have a thin bungy cord that attaches the case to the table. With that attached everything is tight. |

Cool. First time I've seen that system used. Very creative. What did you do to keep the flag holder from spinning too freely on the stand post? Are they even the same diameters?

You are definitely asking the right questions. It required a piece of pvc electrical piping. Basically, I went to lowes and hunted for piece of pipe that would bridge the difference. I used some apoxy to attach the pipe to the top of the cymbol stand, and all of this is covered under the flag pole bracket.
The picture frame idea for a table top is an idea from Michael Ammar (at least he is who I heard the idea from). |

Yeah, been there done that. I'm partial to this type of connector. It requires a 3/4" threaded pipe. If the stand is already that size then I'd have threads cut:

Right - I could have done that, the one I have has 3/4" threads. But the bracket I used allows the table top to stay attached and fold flat. A slight advantage in my opinion.
