There is an economic crisis however, it seems, this is not applicable to some Tenyo collectors The last year I have seen prices going through the roof for some rare Tenyo items (and I have been collecting Tenyo for quite a few years)!
Space Walking coins sold for (+/-)200 USD, Supercubio just sold for (+/-)150 USD, Tunnel Of Darkness for (+/-)150 USD, Ninja Experiment sold for 170 USD and not that long ago I sold Billscape for 150 USD ... and so on ... ! I was wondering what you are willing to pay for a (rare) Tenyo trick that is missing in your collection? For me, I would pay roughly 75 EURO (approximately 100 USD) - a bit more perhaps - if the trick is rare AND (and that's important) if it is not copied and sold for a lot less, or, when I am convinced that people will 100 % figure it out when the trick is being performed (and therefore, imho, being a 'bad' magic trick) ... . What I mean is, as far as I am concerned, and perhaps that makes me not a 'real' Tenyo collector, for, let's say 200 USD, you can buy a few VERY GOOD magic tricks, or for that price, you can buy one SUPERB magic trick that is probably better then the Tenyo trick ... I guess I'm more a collector of easy to do, self working 'devices' |

I paid pretty high money for Floating Lady. I'm not a collection completer, in fact there are many Tenyo items I'm not really interested in but if I really want a particular item I'll pay what it takes.

Killertweety, I think you are right. I'm a new Tenyo collector (about 40 Tenyo tricks in the last 6 months) and my original goal was to collect all 200+ tricks. If the goal is to 100% complete your collection, and you can afford it, then it is not the price that is important. If it cost $300 (or more) for Space walking coins and it's not available elsewhere, then you buy it. However, like you, my original goal is changing, as I have found I don't enjoy some of the Tenyo tricks I've bought. So, while I would still like to accumulate Tenyo's, I will definitely be more choosy about the prices I pay for a rare item just because it's Tenyo & I don't own it yet. It's much more fun to collect stuff that you have fun owning. For the real collector, the price you pay for an item you don't have is limited only by your budget. (A bronze sculpture by Alberto Giacometti was sold in London Wednesday night for $104.3 million |

Haha indeed, Edshern
By the way, when you like 'easy to do, self working devices' look out for tricks made by for example MAGIRO and TRICKS CO. JAPAN. Also the non-Tenyo tricks by MB MAGIC WORKS (like Tongue Tied), are OK for us |

Something is worth what someone is willing to pay for it, period. Otherwise said, worth is a sliding scale, it's dynamic, not static as most people view things. "Well, something sold for x on eBay, so that's what mine must be worth!!", wrong.
Here's the indisputable truth about eBay Tenyo closings, and I say indisputable because what I'm about to say can be proven factually and unequivocally. 1. Prices skyrocket for items that are rarely seen. Case in point, I once sold a rare Card Changer for $167 and when Stuartle was dumping his Tenyo collection on eBay to pursue his photography passion, he had a small stock of Card Changers driving the going rate to under $100 from posting them too often promoting a false sense of availability. Now is Card Changer "rare"? You bet, but..., small caches of anything posted within too close a time proximity of an identical item drive prices down, simple supply and demand. Be careful paying top dollar for a Tenyo trick unless YOU KNOW the trick is truly rare and not just scarce. Further, valuation is deterministic by range, not single peak closing values, or otherwise said, outlier prices, both low and high. 2. Some of the "record setting" closings are shill bids. There is much TRICKERY (pun intended) on eBay, beware. Depending on the motivation, or rather desperation (;-) of the collector, prices can legitimately escalate to unseen sums. That said, a tricks value should be based on a median between an outlier low and high and consistent closing values in between. Lastly, what is perceived as RARE often isn't, most Tenyo items are only scarce as unknown caches will always exist. |

Anything more than a hundred US dollars is going to be tough to lay out.
That is why I am focusing on opened Tenyo in like new condition, especially since I open and play with/perform all my tricks. AA |

I think your strategy is sound but realistically, you'll need to spend more than a hundred for some open tricks. Diabolicus, The Haunting, Astro Tube, Mystery China Box, Eye of the Idol and others will cost you about $100 or more, some just under a $100. |

I think you are from the US, me too, I am from New Jersey. Where are you from? Boston? I have some of the tricks you mentioned above. I bought them when they were still available at the online stores. I don't know about Astro Tube. I will have to go to stereo.com to check it out. ;-) Yes, I will mostly likely have to pay til it hurts for some of the tricks on my current list even in opened condition but some should be affordable. Here's what I am looking for in opened but like new condition: Parabox, Mini-Zag, Fantasica, Ultra Tube, Billscape, Menta Marvel, Match Stick I just missed out on an opened Parabox last week. I think the key is patience. If you give it some time you can find some bargains. AA |
