So being the geek that I am, I love games. Board games, card games, miniature war games, video games....love 'em. So when I went to a local gaming store with my brother in law this past weekend, they were doing a large campaign demo for the tabletop miniature wargame WarHammer 40k. The battle was pretty heated amongst the 12 or so players and there was a large crowd gathered watching. As I stood towards the back, watching the miniature armies of monsters, aliens and space marines slug it out on an alien planet(incredible miniature work, by the way!), I overheard two guys talking. One was explaining the game to another and I heard him say "It's impossible to tell who will win until the very end, because there are so many factors and the tides can turn so easily on a player."
Well, that got me thinking! It would be pretty darn cool if one were to make a complete prediction of a large game like that. Write it out in front of all the players and perhaps hang the envelope above the war table. When only one faction stands and the war is won, the envelope will be opened and lo and behold....the game was completely predicted...including the order each faction was eliminated...any noteworthy happenings during play and of course, the final victor! Could be fun and interesting...... I added it in here, because A) I feel that the WarHammer angle would make it a little bizarre....and B) I know you guys appreciate ideas more than some of the other nooks of the Café....so lemme know what you think!

It would indeed be cool, fun and interesting, and (I would reckon) a reputation maker!.
Whilst you are at it could you just drop the results of the soccer world cup to me in a pm? lol. Ta
I was put on this earth to do a great many things..... I'm now so far behind that I don't think I'm ever going to die!

Multiple outs with a body index or just a swami.
BTW - Warhammer is an awesome game if you have the $$$$$$$$ to put into it, outside of magic. I almost bought a 5000 point Vampire Counts army for $2500 but most of that went to magic I think. Mordheim is pretty darned cool too. |

Yeah, my brother in law is really sucking me into WarHammer.....it'll be a long slow road to build an army up, but I'll get there.
Andy, I'll see what I can do about the Soccer World Cup!

There is a lot of cool and bizarre imagery in the 40k universe. Just the idea of a near dead psychic vampire that needs to devour the life force of 10000 people a day to save humanity from Space daemons is a great story telling op. But be careful GW may send the inquisition after you. (Yeah Im a big 40k geek. Been into it since the mid 80s)

Well, I've been starting to hang around a local game shop, and there are Game Workshop guys giving demo's every now and then of 40K.....and when they come it's usually a big event at the store....so I'm thinking that perhaps I may be able to do this AND have it sanctioned by GW and The Whiz (the shop I go to).
There are TONS of cool bizarre elements to 40k.....I'm loving the Necrons and the Tyranids a whole lot right now!

There are enough physical elements to gaming that can be included as a part of a mutlitple-outcome scenario.
If you wanted to free-form, why not do a version of "Confabulation" with a fantasy gaming theme? Chris |

And you can have this crew deliver the prediction envelope:

That's very true, Chris! Ha! That would be funny as hell to have them deliver the envelope!
I was thinking that maybe even something like Devin Knight's Crystal Box might work?

The envelope could be within the folds of the GM's screen or inside of a box containing miniatures. Either or both could be gimmicked.

True that! Although I could also have the store owner hold onto it with his signature across the envelope perhaps?
