Ok, so this is an obvious spin off from another thread I had. However, I felt the topic was different enough to justify separating the posts. Hope no one minds.
I like the Benson bowl routine and can perform it adequately enough. Here's where I need some suggestions. Although it may work for some, I personally do not care to use a wand or sponge balls when performing. Not to the reasons most may think, wands are a pain to travel with and frankly I don't like sponge balls for texture and compression reasons (not to mention looks). So what are some easy alternatives or routines that don't require a wand. Any thoughts are welcome. -Lee |

Use wadded up paper napkins (or newspaper or bread) and check out the Charlie Miller variation using a hat.

There is a routine that I did long before I ever heard of Benson Bowls that can be adapted. I'll PM you.

Check out the videos at Pete Biro's web site. He shows the Rezvani vanish using both a metal (brass?) bowl and a fez. It's a great looking vanish. I just received Pete's book "Bowling With The Stars". Pete's routine with a plunger would be unusual, though I might not want to use any old plunger laying around. LOL!

One night, many years ago, in West Webster NY I was sitting at a glass topped table with several non magician women while Ray Mertz was doing his bowl routine. He was finishing with a giant chrome "nut" (from a bridge Ray said ). Well, as he was moving the "empty" bowl back to the table top the nut slipped lose and hit the table just right and it shattered. The table top was at least a half inch thick. Fortunately noboby was hurt by the shattered glass.
Imagine the finish you could do with a plunger!!

Do it with wadded up Currency. Everyone likes money! You could probably borrow the bills. Use a writing pen as a wand.
Borrowed bills, pen and a hat = nice impromptu Benson Bowl Routine! Metatron |

Hi
The german magician Alexander de Cova performs a great version (I guess it's the original) of this routine. Patrick |

Although Alex's routine is great, it's not the original. The original is either the version Roy Benson actually performed, or the version Rezvani performed, which was probably the inspiration of Roy's routine.
Roy's routine was more than just the bowl routine. There was something that came afterwards, and he generally did not do a final load in his later years.

This message is mostly for Pete Biro.
I think, for posterity's sake, a video clip of your plunger routine should be put up on your web site! I know I'd love to see the original. Mark |
