Is anyone using this yet? Please give us comments.
Tilford's site leaves nothing to the imagination, which is good for magicians, but hopefully non-magicians will never see the photos. It looks like a killer effect. It looks like a more practical (and far more expensive) version of the 3 in 1 levitation (elsewhere on this site). How practical is the set up? What are the performing conditions? How quiet? How reliable? Will battery or other parts be easy to replace in a few years? Any practical comments would be appreciated. |

Before I built and started using the 3 in 1, I thought that the Yogano vertical was the coolest thing next to penguin snot, but after seeing one close up and watching it jerk and waver into the raised position, I changed my mind. Its OK if you have an assistant who weighs under 110 lbs. Plus it's on stage the whole time and tends to draw suspicion to itself. You also have to watch some angles and make sure you coordinate your movements to the raise.

I am partial, since I am selling the Saturn levitation. If you are in the Las Vegas Area you are more than welcome to look at one in operation without obligation.
The idea is to use it as a magic table during performance thus it is justified to having it on stage. Yes angles are critical and it is not for surrounded work. |

It is by far one of the more practical "beginners" levitation systems I've seen in years and hosts tons of room for "improvement" options e.g. Aladdin's Flying Carpet in which a kid flies from stage left to right, vertical and horizontal levitation action, and rotation and spin actions. It can be "modified" relatively easily to do a "Poor man's Flying" styled routine and even a cool "Spirit Possession" of a medium within a Spirit Cabinet who is levitated and moved about the stage by invisible entities. Finally, the unit serves some practical applications I cannot mention here but you can find reference to these ideas in the Lee Grabel book or variants around the ideas if you think about the Million Dollar Mystery. I've played with dozens of systems over the years, few have impressed me as much as this little unit. Ok, at the request of the forum's personnel I'll amend the above post which, in the original post started off "Don't Buy From Tilford!" I can't believe this needs to be explained. Mr. Tilford has an on-going, industry wide reputation for knocking off other people's designs, not caring about copyrights/patents or simply giving credit (and royalties) where due. He has become the early 21st century likeness of Jim Sommers in the 70s and 80s. Given the concern so many voice over "Ethics" and such, I honestly do find it incredibly staggering that someone would ever consider buying from this guy. Then again, we magi do tend to get a bit hypocritical when it comes to getting what we want and saving a buck, don't we?

The Saturn Illusion is very awkward to use, rather clumsy and not very safe. The Yogano illusions seem to read well in print, but practically they are not so good.

It’s more unethical for the builders and performer who build and buy these rip-offs. Tilford doesn't build anything, he a middleman. Sommers did build and market his ripped off effects. It’s still all about magicians wanting a cheaper and easy road to success, thinking if they only had the props. They see Copperfield and buy from Tilford. If magicians would stop building the rip-offs and stop buying from Tilford, his business would dry up. But that will never happen because he sells illusions cheap. They are wrong and not deceptive, but cheap. Zigmont

Ok, Tilford doesn't build them HE JUST SUPPORTS WHOEVER WILL BUILD THEM FOR HIM TO SELL. Sorry, wrong is wrong and Tilford just moved further down the ladder with me. Lift a rock and you might just find him.

I talked with Tilford on the phone once, as I was complaining about an effect he was marketing that belonged to Rich Marotta. It was the production of a live dove from a framed picture of a dove.
He said that he had never heard of me or of Rich and had no reason to believe anything we said one way or the other. I told him that I had video of Rich doing his effect on television many years ago. He said, "I don't build these things. I just market them." He got very flustered and irritated and then hung up. The sad thing is, Rich was going to market the effect, but lost interest when Tilford's version came out. Tilford's was just sort of a horizontal dove tray, where Rich had a whole new and much more effective method. The magic community really lost on this one. In Rich's routine, a dove is vanished between the two sides of a record album, but is accidentally "flattened" into a cloth felt dove cartoon. Twila Zone, Rich's assistant is crushed by event, and she sadly places the flattened dove in a frame as a keepsake. Suddenly, she snaps her finger beneath the dove and it visually changes into a live dove sitting on her finger. Whit, you bring back some fond memories with all that.
What I can't understand is how anyone that's been involved (seriously) in magic for more than a few years hasn't heard of you or Rich… heck, most people that have been around that long have heard of me (in one mode or the other. ) A few even admit to knowing me. How about a magic convention to be held at Tilford? Everyone he's ever ripped off gets in FREE provided they have their lawyers present.

Mine jerks around too much, which looks bad and you have to keep your arm still.
It's very practical, but shakes when you go up.

I have plan of this illusion from Yagano.
I think, that this illusion is invented only for a photo! It is not practical! |

The 3 in 1 levitation seems interesting. Who is the creator of this? Is there a website where I can order this levitation? How much does it weigh and cost? Thanks!
