It rained all yesterday, so I didn't feel guilty about sitting in a cafè; reading newspapers, watching others 'hop',.... and melting. After about two hours, I realized the man sitting two tables over from me, was the Policeman who's kept ME hopping, ever since I've been in town! I toasted my empty water glass to him, and to my surprise, he smiled back,... and toasted his FULL Red Wine glass. hmmm, not too be out done, I ordered a karaffe red and joined him. We had a delightful afternoon.
Somewhere between glasses, I told him some of the 'funny' lines shared in "What not too say...". He thought it was all pretty jovial, especially the "pistol in the pocket" line. "But", he said, "why don't you pass on some of OUR greetings?!" OK, he bought the next two karaffes,... as humiliating as it is,... I promised. Here is a short list, of a few 'introductions', our "friends and helpers" have passed on to me thru the years. 1. "OK, now Houdini is going to vanish!" 2. "Folks, we like this guy so much, we're going to take him down to the office and let him give us a privat show." 3. (picking up my hat) "He's not going to have to collect today. The city is going to give him room and board tonight. 4. (this one really hurt!) "We'd like to let him continue, ladies and gentleman; but at the end of his show, he does weird things with little children!" (ever since he thru that one out, I'd swear EVERYONE looks at me a bit slanted!!) promised fullfilled, gallagher. |

Agreed. Love it. Are you still in France Gallagher? Did this conversation happen in English or French?

Those lines are all very funny, but the last one is just libelous, don't you think? I mean, naturally the first thing people are going to think is "pedophile," which is easily the most hated type of person on the planet. Slapping an innocent person with that kind of accusation is not an idle joke.
That said, I thought the other ones were brilliant. Correct me if I'm misunderstanding the behavior of law enforcement (I am, after all, a newbie), but this is why I so far don't subscribe to the "forgiveness rather than permission" philosophy. So far, I've had no trouble obtaining permission. |

Tristan, I used to take such things seriously, as well. But,...then I realized life is too short to take them so serious. (I'm surprised I just wrote that SO philosophical and calm!) In the moment, ya, such things are a "bummer",... but I've realized, often, in such moments, I am being a bummer!!,... so..;
I don't know if it is wealth, stupidity, cowardness, wiseness,... or laziness,.... maybe, it's the freedom of the Streets; but it's sometime nice being able to pack it up with a smile,.... and go around the next corner. gallagher. p.s.: One of my few 'enlightenments', from a truely 'enlighted', came from Jim Cellini. After having some problems with authorities in some smaller towns, he told me, "Just keep focused on your way. It only makes you lose your hair worrying about it and fighting!" (this was kinda funny coming from a guy who was half bald!, still,... a very good thought.) p.s.s.: Chance, yes, and yes,.... kind of. Mon Francaise c'est noch tres miserable,...and not all of the Police speak as bad English as they pretend! ....Falo is still on the list. I'll let you know. |

Good show old chap...Bravo
Perhaps you should be arrested for busking a few times to fully understand the police/busker relationship. It worked for me...
