Are there any street magic magazines?
Other than the big 2 what are the other magic mags you'd recommend? How do you order them? Websites? Thanks |

Greetings and Salutations Big Jeff,
Other than Genii and Magic, the only other two big mags out there, that I'm aware of, are M-U-M and The Linking Ring, publications of the Society of American Magicians (SAM) and the International Brotherhood of Magicians (IBM), respectively. While I can't speak for The Linking Ring, as I have not taken the opportunity to join IBM, M-U-M does not concentrate any real effort on street performing, at least not in the past couple of years that I have been a member. If The Linking Ring had some dedicated work on street magic, I'm hoping I would have heard of it by now. This is not to say that all of the above magazines are not worth reading, I don't have subscriptions to Magic or Genii so I can justify regular trips to my local magic store, I get M-U-M as part of my SAM membership, and one of these days I'll get around to joining IBM so I can get The Linking Ring -- Peter Marucci (sorry if I mispelled it Peter) is a regular contributor to both The Linking Ring and various threads here at the Magic Café. Now that I've blathered on overly long, surf over to performers.net. While not a street magic board, it does cover the width and breadth of street busking in general and particular, and there are magic threads and advice to be found. Have fun playing in the streets. Jeff,
The Magic Menu may be up your alley. Though not specific to street magic, it does cover restaurant/strolling magic with tips, reviews of books and products, and routines from professionals from a variety of "schools". I think their website is http://www.magicmenu.net, but a google search should get you there. Highly recommended. Nando

You can buy five years worth of back issues of The Magic Menu in the form of a book also.

Actually, you can get 10 years of back issues in hard-bound form, and the eleventh year (quarterly issues) are still available at http://www.magicmenu.net
Look for a coming issue dealing with "street magic"... ajp |

I send out an email newsletter called SHAKESPEARE'S EMAIL that touches on busking.
As you may know, I wrote a book called BE A STREET MAGICIAN!, and used to be a journalist for the L.A. Times. When things happened to me on the street, or when I got revelations or learned lessons, I wanted a place to publish what happened. So I started SEM, which goes out about once a week. Went out and busked on the Third Street Promenade last night, and nothing really happened except money, so I probably won't send out anything about it. Subscription price is...free. If you're interested, email me at mysterious@compuserve.com.
