Hi Guys,
I'm flying to a "deserted" island in the Caribbean's in a few weeks. I wanted to o buy few books.
Any ideas?
It can be just about anything. From Ali Bongos coin slights to Ian Rowland's cold reading.
If you guys know any nice, enjoying, and original book,
let me know.

One of my favorite lines from MASH deals with this question. Hawkeye was asked what book he would bring to a deserted island. He said something like, "I'd bring the dictionary... because I figure it has all the other books in it."

My first choice would be "Devil of a Bar and Pub". Totally entertaining.

But does this not presuppose that the island is not THAT desert?
Then you'll rise right before my eyes, on wings that fill the sky, like a phoenix rising!

Scarne's Magic Tricks by John Scarne, lot's of great tricks, stunts and mental effects.
Plus, the drawings of Scarne remind me of my father.
Have a great trip and a good read.

Which one is it, I think I would bring Outer Gateways by Kenneth Grant, I think that's the one that teaches you how to ripp a portal through our time/space continuum allowing for communication with "interdimensional foreign intelligences" its very interesting, but its very dry

For something a lot lighter, I'd bring and read Talking to Extraterrestrials: Communicating with Enlightened Beings by Lisette Larkins, I believe it was one of her first books, and it is excellent if you take this seriously, or with a grain or two, or three of salt

Whether you think it's true, or all b.s. its all interesting nonetheless and makes for an evening of entertaining reading

Voting for "Scripting Magic" by McCabe.

I've just now read it once and am now re-reading and marking it up - so many great ideas. Not just theory - it's also showcases some amazing scripts for lots of classic effects. It just might change the way you see yourself performing magic.

It is one of my favorite purchases. I'm always surprised I don't hear more about it on the Café!
