So I'm an AVID supporter of sideshow stunts being taught in person, by professionals. (You know this) Please say you know this...

BUUUUUUUUT. With the growing number of hippies and ravers diving into fire eating head first (and stealing a lot of gigs from pros up here-and everywhere too I know)...I'd rather NOT see anyone killed, maimed, scarred, or sued. It's bad for business. Agreed?

Meet Carisa Hendrix. She's a great a girl. A real smart cookie, and a 'sideshow darling' from Vancouver. (Glass walk, Scissor Blockhead, BON, Fire)

A few months ago she released a 'How to eat fire' dvd. I was VERY skeptical...but a friend said she was good on it, and I respect his opinion, so I chilled.

She uses animations & slow mo, photos of 'accidents', and most importantly...interviews paramedics, and the fire department, and covers every aspect of fuel and safety.

I bring it up, because if the people desperate to learn are watching our friendly fire eating moron at expert village...they may see this and get Carisa's DVD instead of courting disaster. YES learning from a DVD is BAD BAD BAD and NOT the preferred method....

HOWEVER.

From what I've seen out there, this is THE most comprehensive, safety and technique oriented thing I've seen.

After watching a stunt taught soooooooo poorly (Dan Hauss's Through and Through needle thru hand release on DVD), I was impressed to see something this thorough.

However, le sigh...Youtube, Websites, DVD's. Is this a modern age thing? It shouldn't be, but it seems inevitable. The stuff is out there.

...If it has to be out there, it SHOULD be high quality.

Ha it's funny that you mentioned this, because it was brought up in the up in smoke section some time ago, I actually even mentioned you in my posts regarding it, which I think were actually in the believe it or not section as well. I do have to agree, that the dvd is on the "better side" of available materials, I tend to pick stuff like the dvd up whenever I see it. Reason being that there may be some knack or tip that might help me to be a better fire performer. On the other hand it can be completely comical and cause me to just shake my head. I do feel that her "fire kit" is a bit of a joke, but that's just me. As far as the dvd though it's not bad. MUuuuuuuch better than say:

Which is a complete joke, it's essentially a hyped up commercial for two magicians from australia with verrrrry little instruction.

I will definitely agree that learning in person is the only way to go, but Carisa's dvd isn't bad for supplemental material to having real in person instruction with a trained professional.

The only thing I found very strange about the dvd and it's appearance on the Café was that there are two posts about from a guy named christophercool2010, who only has 2 posts on the Café, both about the dvd. So I feel that the "reviews" of it in those threads are slightly biased and most likely the creator or someone close to her.

The sitting down in a circle while eating fire is just weird.

The second video had me in stitches and I think Carisa is adorable. Not just because she mentioned my opinion of the morons video.

This is one of my recent finds that makes me laugh. Wait for the little old lady. It cracks me up every time. I wish I could make a million dollars forcing people to eat fire.

The fire kit is a bit silly, mass manufacturing is not something she can afford, I guess. My first torches were made from bbq skewers...um...we all start somewhere, lol (but saying it makes you look like a pro IS a bit much)

Jer, yes, a bit more research about what's come before would have been good. It is not the first DVD in NA of it's kind.
