Sometime in 1937, a young man aged 24, sought autographs of then chief minister of undivided Bengal AK Fazlul Haq and his cabinet colleagues on a blank sheet of paper, which miraculously turned into a Bill of Abdication in his favor! That act of audacious magic overwhelmed the entire Indian subcontinent by violent storm and impelled him to national fame.
The man was the late PC Sorcar Senior, magician par excellence, who years later introduced him to the world as The World’s Greatest Magician or “TW’sGM”. And the rest is History (His Story). On February 23, 2010 the legend’s 98th birth anniversary, the philatelic division of the department of posts under The Government of India has released a commemorative stamp to honor this son of the soil. This is only the third such instance in the world. French magician Robert Houdin and American magician and escapologist Erich Weiss, popularly known as Harry Houdini, are the other two magicians in whose memory stamps have been released. Now here is a rare opportunity for all magic-lovers and magic memorabilia collectors.
