I am a male nurse, I work at an isolation ward for contagious diseases. Today I was in an iso room, having just finished there and was about to head for the airlock as the staff phone on the wall rang. It was my colleague from the nurses station, telling me that the cousin of the very patient was asking about him and as I am the patient's personal nurse and she saw me in the monitor, she decided to call me in the room. Fine I told her to put the cousin thru to me even if its not fun to yak on the phone with all the protective gear on.
So, an elderly gent politely introduces himself and tells me how very sorry he is for the fact that he has not been able to visit his cousin. I naturally informed him that we cant have any visitors at this point, so he asks when would it be possible for him to see his cousin. Very truthfully I told him, it could be weeks as we had just taken him in the previous night. This clearly baffled him quite a bit and he asked why it would take weeks, so I explained that we have no idea of the cause and have taken all sorts of tests and sent them out to the lab and before we have gotten the results, we really cant do anything very specific. Now this is the point where I get really baffled as he asks me "But you can still release the body, cant you?" So all I can say is, "But...your cousin is alive." To which he replies "are you sure?" I was, as I had just talked to him before the painkillers kicked in and he fell asleep. Long story short, there had been a "slight" misunderstanding. Someone had told someone that the patient's condition is dead serious (not at all likely, btw), that someone had told someone else and by the time the patient's cousin got the info, the condition had gone from "dead serious" to just "dead". The patient's cousin was very happy and frankly, so was I. Just wanted to share...
