I don't do very much coin work but have been looking recently at adding a few things. I was looking at coin boxes and now I'm confused. Can someone explain the difference in a Okito Box, A Boston Box, A Budda Box, and a nest of Boxes? Which do you prefer to use?

An Okito Box is the standard design and the Boston box has a gimmicked exterior bottom for additional routines (the Boston Box can be shown to contain coins after the coins have been spirited away). Buddha Boxes are a particular brand and profile for the standard Okito box with the design being the only difference although these are available in Boston and Slot versions (the slot versions are gimmicked in the interior for a different looking vanish of a coin. A nest of boxes can look similar to the Okito Boxes but the effect is different. A marked, vanished coin appears in the interior of three round brass boxes, each of the boxes being slightly smaller in diameter so they nest together. Most routines are designed around the standard Okito with additional bits and proving available with the variety of other designs. The Boston Box is the second most popular design with the Solt Box likely at third. David Roth's Expert Coin Magic and JB Bobo's Modern Coin Magic are the best sources of material for these boxes.

If A coin is not stuck in the botton Of the Boston box I don't if I would call it a gimmick! I have handed A Boston Box WITHOUT A coin stuck in the botton to layman and thay did not think anything of it! I also have a book of routines called Poff. coin box magic that has a lot of stuff of the boston box! Agen all with out a coin stuck in the botton! Ok Thanks Gang!

Dave I never thought of using a boston box without the coin attached to it. I will try this out though. Thanks for the idea Cheers PT

Chad Long's routine, okito-reversembly, does not use a coin attached (in fact, it's crucial that it doesn't). Dave's book is excellent, btw.

Lewis Ganson has a smaller book on the okito box Doug Brewer has a brand new book out. You can also find a lot of meterial in Kort: the magic of Milt Kort.

Dave's book is killer. Doug's book is on its way from Joe Porper...and the expanded dollar size Zee Okito as well. When it all arrives, I am going to disappear from my family for a few days. :o)
