Hi Guys,
Just to let you know that I have a new ebook available on card work called Letters to friends. Firstly, a very big thank you to my great friend David Gemmell for all his hard work in preparing this latest work. Dave is a true student of the craft and I love discussing card magic with him on a regular basis. This work continues on from my first ebook Further spotlight-Carey on cards with a wide range of solid, practical and hard hitting card magic with just a deck of 52. Only intermediate skill levels are required to be able to perform the material, with one or two of the items even being within the range of the keen beginner to our craft. Foreward by Jack Carpenter:If this book is your first exposure to John Carey's magic, you're in for a magnificent treat. John is an accomplished master of creating magic with maximum effect with a minimum of handling. He's not afraid of sleight of hand, but uses it sparingly, and only if he can't find a way for the spectator to fool himself! (I'm not kidding- take a gander- you'll see what I mean.) Yes, John is a minimalist, but that applies only to his methods- not his effects. And practicality is a must in his work. In these pages, you will find many mindbending effects that you'll be able to perform "on command" with any dog-eared pack put in your hands. You won't find any bad angles, stupid moves done at a stupid time, and usually your spectator is dead in the water long before the effect is finished, he just doesn't know it yet. I recommend that you pick say, 5 or 6 items that you like among this collection, and commit them to memory. You're going to find that in real world performing you are going to fall back on these items more times than you perform your current "favorites." That's just the way it is, you'll see! -Jack Carpenter 2010 Contents: Gunslinger ace production An approach to the one deck do as I do One deck again-a do as I do that is devious Two to tango-my preferred handling of card at a number, designed for maximum impact with minimum of toil. . Biddle in the middle with Max-Make your spectator the star with this almost self working commercial piece inspired by a Max Maven effect from Antinomy A sandwich transposition-my approach to Darwin Ortiz' beyond sleight of hand from card shark Stacked do as I do-Some of the guys I know who use the Aronson or Tamariz stacks love this and use it regularly. A two selection discovery culminating in the deck vanishing in a very bold but deceptive fashion. Simplex mental location-a spectator thinks of a card and you find it in a very direct and subtle fashion. Self working and impromptu. The truth will tell-my step by step lie detector with a finish that will really hit em hard. One for Henry and Sid-a piece inspired by two giants of card magic-Sid Lorraine and Henry Christ. Two people take part in a double layered piece where one discerns the others card. To top it all, the selection makes an unexpected appearance. The pack of mystery-inspired by a Jennings plot. The pack slowly reveals a selection a bit at a time with a kicker finish. Plus Knowing as I do-yet another practical approach to the one deck do as I do, inspired by Ramon Rioboo from Spain. A great way to get 4 of a kind in play prior to further mysteries. In addition 5 other practical card items suitable for the working performer including a handling of the mystery card that plays very nicely. Thank you for your attention and have a great day. John |
