The review for David Solomon's "Thought's Across" in Genii Magazine was so good that I have ordered the effect. Can any one give a further review or tell about their experience with this?

I just received the DVD and gaffs yesterday. The combination of Solomon's "No Palm Cards Across" with Juan Tamariz's "Thought of Cards Across" is absolutely killer. It is so clean and beyond reconstuction. Add the moves from Marlo and the subtleties of Soloman and...I hope no one pays much attention to this!
I think some of these principles could be used with a Mind Control Deck to get a stand up version...

Yes, I use it as a stand-up version, reworked in some details. It is really good. Not important, but with my stand-up version I've fooled many magicians who know a lot as well. Jan

I've been playing around with the stand up possibilities. I'm going to try it out tonight.

After trying "Thoughts Across" sitting around the coffee table, stand up in the living room, and stand up for six banquet tables (about 60 people), I can conclusively say this effect isn't just good for stand up, it is GREAT for stand up. Three to four participants can join in, everything is very clear and visible from a distance, and the multiple climax effect is very strong. I don't add very much to my repertoire these days, but this is going in for sure.

Wow this does look good. One question...why does the deck only consist of 40 cards????

I use a whole deck. A participant deals off 20 cards and these are divided into two piles of ten each. A red card and a black card from a fan of 10 cards are merely thought of.
The magic moment! Participants deal and count 8 cards and 12 cards in each pile, respectively. The thought of cards are named. They are missing from the pile of 8 and taken out of the pile of 12 by a participant. As the review in Genii stated, this is "clean, clean, clean!"

On the demo he has one person thing of a red card and another a black card. BUT...the ace of spades is one of the black cards, but he doesn't say the traditional "don't pick the ace of spades, because that's obvious".
So, can they pick the ace ( I'd say no ) or was the demo leaving that out? Thanks! |

Yes, but slightly different, and yes.
Nevertheless a very well constructed routine and handling. Put some thought in it and you can work it stand up or stage using a full deck. That's what I've done 3 years ago. Plus I added the fact that the spectators don't tell me their thought of cards. You can add mind reading as well (little fi...ng, maximum one "no"). And for the asked prize you can't go wrong anyway. Watched the demo again today and like it ( also Liz is there in the demo ).
I still use MIke Close's Butte Ox? Two Butte Ox from his original workers series of books ( Mike's take on Johnny Paul's classic Cheek To Cheek ). I guess I just love to palm cards and MIke's brilliant, motivated routine allows for it to go right under their radar. |

Is this somehow similar to the Strange Traveller's concept or a totally different approach?

Is this the same version that sells on David's site? http://www.penguinmagic.com/p/S10172?action=wishlist
If so, that is little money for an astounding effect. I may just order one to see how it differs from my favorite cards across which is the Red See Passover.

After watching David Solomon's Youtube video demo, I must say this effect reminds me of Simon Aronson's "Red See Passover". Aren't these two magis long-term buddies?
For those who are familiar with both effects, how do they compare? Spike |
