I posted this story idea a lonnnng time ago on the Electronic Grymoire, but I don't think I've ever shared it on the Café. I sometimes used it in the school library to demonstrate higher order thinking skills--or just thinking outside the box.
Requirements: An 8 1/2 inch sheet of paper that is decorated with a marker to resemble a door; scissors Presentation: Patter about searching throughout your life for happiness. Finally, a wise old man points out to you a door which, if you can walk through it, will lead you to happiness. The problem is that the door is much too small for anyone to walk through. As you patter, fold the door in half lengthwise and begin to cut it as per the walking through a card instructions. But after you unfold the door and BEFORE you cut down the middle, if you pull on the top and bottom of the door, it will form a chain. Patter that not only was the door too small to walk through, but it was heavily chained as well. However, because you have HOTS (Higher Order Thinking Skills) you used the magi scissors to cut through the links of chain... and found that you had actually cut a hole large enough for you to step through. (Here you actually step through the ring of paper.) "And I lived happily ever after." ----- Amado "Sonny" Narvaez

Congratulations! Great use of the 'walking through a card' principle. A good inspirational tale too.

Absolutely wonderful story and application of an under used effect.
Very cLever indeed ! Kotah |

Since the tale involves a door, perhaps the card could be card stock or poster board, allowing you to do Bob neals trapdoor type effect prior to the cutting?
Just an added thought. KOtah |

Wow! That really is a clever idea! If anyone does Gospel Magic, I can see an application of this story being modified to work in that genre as well. Door to heaven, chained by sin, Jesus being the scissors cutting the sins away! I see me using this in both ways in the future. Thank you for the great idea! Perhaps the editors can post this in both forums since it applies.
