I want to preface this post by saying that I have tried to search for this topic on The Magic Café with mostly unsuccessful results.
I am in the process of putting together a playing card act for the stage. How does one put together a routine for this? Bato William

Have you wroked out the logistics? For card effects to work on stage you either need a spectator there to confirm that they made a selection which has been found, or you need a camera if the effects are more complicated so. I would recommend the second anyway, because even though you can have a spectator conduit the surprise, it most likely won't capture the people in the back of the room.

Cards are tough. Card sword and fountain, Card in can, Mcombical prediction (Jumbo),Jumbo Three and a half of clubs. Mind reading 101 has some real bad standard jokes printed on stage size stock. If you can slip one or two of these
Gags in they'd be worth it.T.V.Card frame. Jumbo Split Deck and Jumbo Invisible Deck. 15 card transposition. A classic with many different presentations.Jumbo Rising Cards.Dream Queen is small but you can build it good.Don't get the Jumbo Dream Queen they S*^%,just get normal poker size. Make it fun but still good. Use your helpers to your full benefit as it will be their reactions that will greatly contribute to if the show goes off well or not. I'm kind of on the comedy side so when you do something amazing the people are shocked. Oh,he's funny AND he's good? (please I'm not Bragging just making a point) |

Using regular sized cards with jumbo indexes is helpful.
I'd see if I could find some idea by watching some of Ricky Jay's work. |

If it is a card routine, Card College 2 has some good advice in the last chapter. What tricks are you looking at?

Andre, I'm seriously looking at the Platform Tricks in "Royal Road to Card Magic" and the two 'Now You See It, Now You Don't' books by Bill Tarr.

Those are 3 awesome books you've got there. I also started with them. Cards across can also work on stage.

The material of Guy Hollingworth tends to be designed for larger audiences.
Strictly speaking it's 'parlour' magic not 'stage magic', but adapting it shouldn't be too difficult. Also, the use of spectators on stage (as proxies for the audience) can help in the transmission of an effect. |

Thanks, everyone, for the input.
