I have a Tango flipper coin and I can't seem to get the rubber band replaced. I went through 3 just trying to get one in the groove on the large side but now I need to get it into the groove on the small piece that's attached to the shell.
Any ideas? |

Randy, which type is it? Old style (external groove), or the newer gravity type w/internal band?

It sounds like you haven't removed the small piece from the shell. You should do that before trying to put a new rubber band in.

If I remove the small piece? What glue should I use to put it back in?

I use standard double sided sticky tape in my Tango flipper.

3M Poster Tape is the best.

If its a tango gravity flipper. soak it in acetone and reattach with super glue. I don't know why it works better then double stick tape and to remove it all you do is soak in acetone again. definately a pain if your practicing and breaking band. be sure to let the glue dry completely this could take 12 hours in my expirence.

I started using a piece cut from the neck of a ballon about a year ago on my standard flipper and haven't looked back since. I use a silver ballon which allows me to use a thicker band as it blends in well with my coin. I haven't had it break yet and it's very easy to load. I always use double-sided tape to stick the small piece down.
Kind regards Sean |

Sean,
Any particular types of baloons? The ones I have seen don't seem strong enough. Great idea though. The silver issue is very helpful with older flippers that require an edge band, but I am not sure it would be important with the newer gravity flippers. Care to share your thoughts on the use of baloons on a folding coin? It seems to me the color (or colour as you guys say) is far more important in that situation, but the strength of the band is tested far more as well. I've got an old Walker folding coin (US$.50) that I have been having trouble finding a thin enough band for - plus the band shows somewhat. I am going to try your idea out with that coin. |
