I am redoing my mak flying gold fish effect. I have everything I need to redo the effect except the plastic that goes around the metal drain insert. Can anyone recommend a place that sells that heavy gauge plastic? Any help would be great. Thanks

I had this effect long time ago as a teen. Tried it home and got rid of it,noticed that the water drops continued from the holes as the gimmick is lifted I did not like that personally.

I've made quite a few of these over the years and finally discovered that the soution to the dripping problem is to NOT have holes for the water to drip through, but monofilament strung back and forth across the bottom of the gimmick. This does the job and drips the least, if at all.

Nice effect, I have used it many times. The only problem I've encountered is that keeping goldfish in close proximity before the effect is performed can be detrimental.
Sometimes they will die or be near death when you finally perform the effect, apparently they emit a toxin and if in close quarters as such - not good! I have a larger bowl hidden in my table ( suitcase ) where they can be safely held, when going to pick up an effect to perform, I secretly load the fish where they need to be then perform the effect next. At the conclusion I secretly dump them back in larger holder - let's not be cruel here. Hope this little info. helps. Chuck C. http://www.freewebs.com/caputocollection/ |

WOW! I remember having this years ago when I was buying everything I could afford at the time. In retrospect, I can't believe some of the crazy things I purchased! Not in any way referring to the Jumping Goldfish, but just in general. I'm 63 and many years ago I got away from anything that is considered as "stage" magic and turned my attention to only close up magic.
I remember having the Milk Pitcher and teaching it to a friend of mine so that he could perform it for his son's birthday party. He totally demolished it when he tried to clean it before returning it to me. He thought he had to RIP out the plastic insert to clean it! lol Sorry for going off track here but this thread just caught my attention for some odd reason.

I have built a version of this effect in which the g*****ks are m******c and never leave the clear tubes! They are either at the bottom or the very top hidden behind a thin strip of decorative paint. The g*****k itself is a thin plastic ring with clear fish net stretched acrossed and a m*****t at one end. The outer tubes are hinged so I have the option to open them or lift them; these also have m****ts on the back to control the position of the g******s. I prefer using beta fishes, they can handle the close quarters better than gold fish.

It only took me a few seconds to figure out the missing letters for the asterisks. For a problem-solver or puzzle solver, it presents no difficulty at all. If you are trying to keep the magic secret, it works better to say, "I have built a version of this effect in which the golly-wogs are muscatels and never leave the clear tubes!" That should fool the newbies.

Clear plastic sheets can be purchased at most real Hobby Shops, those that deal with miniature trains is the most promising. They have 3 or 4 different thicknesses.

These things from Pasta Express make the best tubes for this type of trick! Beautiful and indestructible. http://www.amazon.com/Pasta-Express-Doub......ker+tube I was saying that in my version, the are magnetic and nearly invisible and never leave the water tube, so there is no dripping, the cover tubes are at all times empty mounted with a magnet that runs along it's length to control the postion of the gimmick.

Isn't it better to use real magic for this kind of effects? I mean, threads are all so complicated. And all those asterisks, dayum.
I hope you understand, my dear friend, that everything you are seeing is a lie, but everything you are feeling holds true.
