So I want to learn a bit more about electric shows, tesla coils, etc.
Who should I talk to (preferrable) or what can I read? |

I was looking into that a while back. I talked to the Science dept at U of T. Most Universities have one, it's a good place to start.
Maybe write Voltini too? |

Your local science center may have a cleaned-up version of what electric acts used to do.
The Carnegie Science Center in Pittsburgh actually does a "Frankenscience" electricity show, featuring a 1.2 million volt tesla coil. (There is a cool backstory that goes w/ the coil, too.) Chris |

Information Unlimited sells plans for several sizes of tesla coils, you can build one for a couple hundred bucks.
http://www.amazing1.com/tesla.htm ... and here is a great site for coilers. http://4hv.org/ Its more difficult, as you would imagine, than just buying a Tesla Coil. Just like so many things on here the information about the act is really whats worth most and hardest to find. |

I looked at buying the kit too...not knowing anything about electricity, and not caring to find out the hard way, I opted against it...plus, I was told if you have heart issues, it's not a safe thing to play with.
Take care a you! |

Its true. I built the one we use in our show, but we use it on Reggie so.... The long term side effects of high frequency, high voltage is inconclusive. The voltage off of the primary coil is deadly, and even though the output at the secondary coil is only mildly painful, just because it doesn't hurt doesn't mean you aren't doing damage in the long run.
Just like anything else, I would get with someone that knows exactly what they are doing. Its not something to pick up and play with. |
