For a lot of years I worked doing cold readings at banquets, parties and other functions. I stopped doing shows about 15 years ago. (Bob Nelson got me started when I ran into him in Miami about 40 years ago.) Readings were the 'close up' to my mind-reading stage act.
Remembering how every one was anxious to get 'read', I recently decided to learn palm reading, and after going through all of the revues on the Café, I purchased Julian More's speed learning course along with the tick sheet booklet. It was one of my better buys in magic. The course itself is easy to learn from, and the tick sheets make all the difference. It cuts the need to memorize in half, and it's like having a cheat sheet that needs no excuse for being there. It's much easier to have acrutch such as palm reading, tarot, or any other vehicle because it helps to make each reading different. |

I have recently learned palm reading and personally found Bev´s "Palmistry in your own words" just OK. It´s good to get a quick overview but if you want to get a deeper understanding of the topic I would recommend "Palmistry: Apprentice to Pro in 24 Hours" by Johnny Fincham. You can find it on Amazon for less than 12$ and although not written specifically for mentalists the book is very good.
Besides, Ron Martin´s "Palm Reader´s Notebook" is fantastic. There are so many useful lines in there it´s incredible. And as a bonus you get a general system (his Ken system) that can be applied to different kind of readings. |

I found Julian's e-book supurb, and I was delivering credible readings within hours. I don't need detailed minutae about each individual tiny line, because the palm is only an opening - the rest of the reading progresses according to the reaction I am getting.
Highly recommended.

Tony, have you had a look at the other two books? Because in my opinion what makes them really good is not that they teach you every minor detail of the hand. It´s that they give you a better understanding of the major features of the hand and a variety of lines you can use to describe them.

I have both Richards Webster's book and Julian Moore's book. I liked them both. What I was looking for was a way to give short readings that would differ enough from one person to another so that they can compare 'notes', and a system that doesn't require a lot of memory work. Moore's system, along with the tick sheets filled that need for me, and that's why I'm so high on it. I like Webster's style, and refer to both sources. My next booking is at a sweet 16 party for about a dozen girls.
I have no idea of how these books compare to other works out there, because other than that, the only other material I have came from Bob Nelson, and although it's somewhat dated, most would still hold up today. |
