KIDabra Journal News

May Greetings!
We hope this finds you busy! There is much news to share around the KIDabra world, but first the latest update on Bruce Bray:

After the fall at his home on Monday May 10th, and as of this writing, he remains in Intensive Care at the Trauma Center of Jersey Shore Medical Center in Neptune, NJ. Surgery to relieve brain swelling was successful and his vitals are good. Day by day there will be small improvements and occasional setbacks.

Thanks to Ken Scott, Dennis Michael and Bruce's friend Bill Ford, they've been able to set up a special website at http://www.brucebrayfund.com

As news comes in from Bill, Tami is placing updates on Bruce's condition there and you can also donate to the fund if you like. This fund goes directly into Bruce's PayPal account and from there will be administered by Bill to help take care of basic expenses and maintenance of health insurance, rent, van payment, etc. The medical bills will be well beyond the scope of this fund and his insurance should take care of much of that. The focus right now is to keep his home, car and insurance intact during this time. We will also plan a fundraiser for him at KIDabra Conference in August. There is a long road to recovery with this injury. Thanks to friends in the Jersey area like Brad Ross and others who are filling in for his shows. And thanks to you, his friends around the world, for your thoughts, prayers and support.

Now knowing Bruce for almost 20 years, at this point he's saying "Mark, all right, get on with it I want to hear the KIDabra News." You got it my friend.

Performer Liability Insurance Update: Animals Covered
For the last 2 years, KIDabra members have been able to apply for excellent liability insurance through Elite Risk and written by K&K Insurance. Last year the word came from Elite that animals of any kind, including rabbits where no longer covered. Then in a chance meeting at a show Ken Scott ran into an underwriter for K&K. Ken asked about rabbits and found out that they were back in. (My guess is they we're excluded during the height of the H1N1 scare.)

This is the official word now on animals covered:

"Rabbits, Doves, Mice, Hamster, Non venomous and non constricting snakes, as well as dogs less than 15lbs are covered."
This insurance is among the best in the industry and they specialize in performers, the entertainment world and the sports world. You pick your start date and this is an individual not group policy. Please check it out if interested at http://www.kidabra.org, click on insurance.

All kinds of news and updates follow. Make sure you don't miss this issue's sponsor: Creative Magic,
with a special offer for KIDabra members during the Spring Cleaning Sale in progress now!

Hey, take a load off, grab a latte and read from start to finish. Good stuff ahead!

The Year of The Incredible, indeed!

Registrations and contest entries are coming in for KIDabra Conference 2010. However we're not complete until you join us. Register today at http://www.kidabra.org and click on Registration.

Terry Evanswood's Wonders of Magic
- A Special Offer and more!
One of the treasures of KIDabra Conference is the fact that our friend Terry Evanswood's show is just down the street. This year as you know from the Journal, he is in his new home at the Wonderworks Theater. Wonderworks has made special arrangements for KIDabra attendees to visit Terry's show during KIDabra week at a significant discount. Please tell the box office you're with KIDabra. Adults are only $15.00 inclusive and kids are just $10.00. And don't miss one of the great features of the visit: Terry's personal collection of antiquities in the Hall of Magic. This is the first time the collection has been seen in over 3 years.

Folks have asked and yes in conjunction with our fundraising efforts for our selected charity Dolly's Imagination Library (imaginationlibrary.com) and for Bruce Bray, we will again auction off Golden Tickets for a tour of Terry's most unusual home (like a theme park in a house.) People who have taken the tour the last couple of years have been blown away and have helped raise money for a wonderful cause – literacy!

Plus More Incredible Happenings at KIDabra Conference 2010!

Optional Pre-Conference Biz Builder Classes August 10th & 11th

Wednesday, August 11th – Brian Daniel:
How to Teach By Magic

They say the teacher learns more than the student. And that has definitely been the case with Brian's latest project, Teach By Magic.
For the last year, Brian Daniel, owner of Creative Magic, has been working with some of the best educational magicians around on an exciting new project that introduces teachers to the world of magic for use in classrooms. In the process, Brian learned that for the last 20 years, surprisingly, he himself was missing out on a lot that magic has to offer.
For the first time ever Brian will share with you some of the things he has learned including where to find the best magic tricks in magic, how to use these tricks, and not missing out on any opportunity to share magic with others.
Come learn some hidden treasures like the cut and restored balloon, how to make an ordinary postcard as immovable as a brick purely by folding it, how to turn broken toothpicks into a work of art without touching them, and more importantly, how to use these tricks and others to inspire and educate. Plus, Brian will show you how TeachByMagic.com can help you grow your business.
BJ Hickman shares "50 ideas in 50 minutes!"
Fantastic ideas, not shared in other lectures about advertising, promotion, and building income with your show business that BJ Hickman uses every day himself for success. Examples?
* A credit card give-a-way.
* An idea for tax expense organizing.
* On creating "moments" in your show.
* "Show and tell" for laughs.
* A sure fire optical illusion routine for a bully prevention show.
* Presentation cautions.
* Free advertising.
* Technology ideas.
* And lots more. (50 actually!)
We all talk about how getting one good idea can "make" a convention or lecture. Here are 50 of them in 50 minutes!

Great rooms, on property water parks, pools – indoor and outdoor, water slides, lazy river and more, coupled with an excellent free continental breakfast each morning make for a great whole family treat. Melanie Michaels from Australia and John Reid from Long Island both say the Music Road is "like going to a retreat."
We'll be housed in both the Music Road Hotel and the Inn with the Conference Center between. The Inn is only a few steps further from the free standing Conference Center, the Hotel is best if you have special needs, also half of the rooms at the Hotel overlook the river. If the whole family is coming pick the Inn for the most water activities, although no matter which building you're in you have full access.

The complex is located at Traffic light 1 in Pigeon Forge in a quiet cul de sac just off the main drag, turn at the Ruby Tuesday's Restaurant. Surrounding it for a mile in every direction are restaurants to please every taste and that huge Wal-Mart in Sevierville is only 4 or 5 minutes drive, not to mention every outlet store known to man. Call Music Road Toll Free at 866-615-6353 and tell them you're with KIDabra. Every room night counts toward our reserved block and makes the conference possible.
