Has anyone performed any effects using the "Fuse" product for a live audience? I've got some on order to do a review on it, and was curious to see what others thought.

I reviewed it a while back for another website. I tried it a few times and never seemed to get good results, although I know other people have used it with success

At risk of appearing uninformed, which I often am,
What is "Fuse" ? What sort of effect is done or may be done with it? Kotah |

Fuse is fire writing. You put it on paper (and I understand it's finicky about the type of paper used) and when you touch it with a hot match it burns in a pattern that you set.
So it can be used for spirit writing and what not. |

I have used it, in a tarot routine. I have a married couple write their intials on a peice of paper, as if they were carving them on a tree (AB+CD). The cards are shuffled, cut and laid out. The cards then tell the story of their meeting, growing affection, love and marriage...and ends with the lovers being turned. A match is touched to the paper, and a heart burns around their names. Honestly, the husbands often seem indifferent, and are impressed by the fire-writing, but the wives absolutely love it.

Hi William,
Fuse has been a main staple in my bizarre shows for a few years now. It has never failed me. It is very magical looking and is perfect for "prophecy type" effects. It is one of my favorite effects to use in a close up bizarre setting. I use it quite often and make up my "predictions" usually days in advance of my performances. I think it is one of bizarre magick's hidden gems. Tony

Thank you for responding William. Yes I have seen it done but did not know the name. Different then than the stuff Blaine used. I think some of it ignites upon contact with oxygen. Thanks to all for your comments.

Tony! I didn't expect to see you here. Your Karnival Magic DVD is what introduced me to Fuse to begin with. Well done sir, I enjoyed that dvd.

So I got my fuse this morning and got a chance to play with it a little bit. I prepped a 5 of hearts reveal, and the word "ace" written on the paper.
I took the paper, the insense stick and a lighter with me to work. I did a psychological force with the ace and asked a male co worker to think of the first card that came to mind. Sure enough, he said "Ace of Spades" so I went with the first reveal. I followed it up by performing the 5 reveal for a now small audience that had gathered around. The slow sizzle burn reacted much slower than I would have liked, but the crawl that it burned at is what brought the crowd in. So I guess I can't complain. I now wonder if the amount of solution applied to the paper directly affects the speed at which the trail burns? I'm amazed at how crisp, sharp, and minute the details can be while burning. The 5 within the heart came out very clean, and I was concerned given the amount of room it had to perform in was very small. The clarity was solid though. The possibilities with this solution is endless! The creative mind begs the challenge of finding application, presentation, and use. I'll be writing up a more in depth review of this product in the short weeks to come. I'll post it on the forum once I have it written. |

Does it work with tissue paper only?

Fuse does not work well with writing paper. The best paper I have found for Fuse is the paper used by doctors, chiropractors, masseuse, etc to cover part or all of their tables. It comes on a role (one role will last you a lifetime) and is like packing tissue paper but stiffer and easier to work with.

Great tip, Christopher. I used to sell that paper.

Used to sell that as a "yout" in my uncle's paper goods warehouse...it was known as "butcher paper", but used as said for the medical benches.

Thanks Christopher.
I guess printing on this kind of paper is out of the question.

I tried printing on it today and it went through but nothing printed. I think perhaps it is too light. I would try affixing it to regular printer paper with re-stickable glue at the lead edge. BTW, the paper I am referring to is white and very similar in appearance to flash paper.
All the best, Christopher |

Several years ago I needed to print a letter on very thin onion skin paper (obviously for magical purposes). Run the line of restickable glue on the leading edge of the computer printer paper. After it dries, press the thin paper to the restickable glued edge (the leading edge into the print mechanism).
I don't recall if I had a laser printer or inkjet printer at that time, since I have owned both types in the past. There was no problem with the ink adhering to the surface of the onion skin paper.
