I received mine yesterday and read it through first time last night.
I'm really quite impressed and found some excellent tips & tricks in it. There are some ideas I will definitely be incorporating into the piece. The $25 tag is peanuts for this stuff. Thank you Brian!

It's great, I read it one night.... There is only one thing that doesn'r work as good as with Luna: In Luna it's pretty clear, that all entries are people in different cells in an asylum. With Ipswich it's more a report of verdicts. So does it make sense to speak of the woman or the man in the next cell?

LarsRuth:
You are absolutely correct, and this is an issue I struggled with when writing the performance manual. In the end, one has to develop some connection between the entries in order to make the side-by-side placements work, and the most logical connection would be that the victims were imprisoned in the order of their 'verdict/case numbers' and would have had adjoining jail cells. The original instructions also suggest this connection. It does work, but you are quite right that the adjoining cell connection is stronger in Luna.

If you watch any of those Salem witchcraft based movies, all the witches are held in cells and basements. Just dig up a few photos of witches imprisoned and leave those out with the other goodies, so people get a visual along with a verbal description "the accused witches and warlocks were locked away in disgusting cells to await their trials"...
Other tip I use for Luna and this one... have some old style manacles and chain. Physical touch -clinking sounds. The old addage: engage multiple senses

Ancient looking manacles can be found in most LARP and Reanactment stores, by the way.

The performance manual is really terrific. What I love most about the manual is that it does such a great job of stimulating the imagination and gently encouraging the reader to create an entirely original performance piece for him/herself. There are so many good things to say about the thinking behind the manual, but I think the most complimentary thing I can say is that it has certainly inspired me to go above and beyond.
I originally bought the manual to see if I could use Ipswich make a performance piece for myself I could do well. After reading the manual, it was clear that there are lots of possibilities with Ipswich and that I simply must have this prop. What a fortunate turn of events for me to see that Vic is offering a reduced price. Not sure how long this will last, so I sent in my order immediately. If you're considering this piece, consider no more. Send an order. I can't wait to start working on my script for this. |

I have just dusted off my old Outlaw version of Ipswich, along with the excellent performance manual from Prof. BC. But I am realizing now that there must have been instructions that came with the book initially. I don't recall whether that was a digital file, or something in hard copy. I know that Outlaw is long gone, but if anyone can supply me with the original instructions, or point me in a direction where I might get them, that would be wonderful.

Someone here on the Café has very kindly offered to forward me the original instructions. Thusly armed, it's back to Salem I go.
