Veterans Day is to acknowledge those of us who served.
MEMORIAL DAY is to HONOR those who made the ultimate sacrifice for us all. Know the difference. Please. You don't have to salute, or pray or sing the national anthem. Just pause and consider your own life and years and reflect on those who laid their's down for someone elses Freedom. They would have liked to have had a life too. Just reflect on that and the incredible responsibility that was left in your hands. Trust in those who will make the stand to keep it for you.

No one here much cares I'm sure, but as it happens I'll be spending Memorial Day at a facility run by U.S. service people at the Fort DeRussy Armed Forces Recreation Center in Hawaii. Curiously, they have no Memorial Day activities listed on their facility calendar (nothing obvious anyway) but we'll see what happens.

You may be surprised but while in the service other than special meals and a cake for Armed Forces Day we didn't do anything really noticable for holidays. For Christmas and Thanksgiving we'd work what we called a Sunday schedule (exception if at sea when it didn't matter what day it was, we worked them all) we didn't do anything. The vet cemetaries is where the tributes are.

Yup Santa, in the Army we never did anything memorable either, it was another day off. Although, one year, just due to the way the duty calendar fell, we were in Gaza on July 4th for our turn at UN Peace Keeping duties.
Peace and Godspeed.
Peace
