Hi All.
How hard would it be to make my own karate coin out of a Johnson Chinese coin (like Eric Jones mentions in an Extension of Me)? Would I just need a drill press and a step drill bit? I know they make devices to convert a Dremel into a drill press (I've got a Dremel), but I don't think it can handle a bit this big. Can anyone tell me if there are cheap drill presses that will simply take any hand drill and make it into a press? Here's a bit that I found: http://www.drillspot.com/products/551678......_bit?s=1 ... Or is this going to be so expensive that I should just see if one of the coin gaffers can drill a hole for me. I suspect the hardest part will be trying to figure out how to keep the hole centered throughout the process. thanks in advance, - Frank |

Frank,
There is a thread that discussed this several weeks ago here: http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......orum=202 Might find something of interest there. Jim |

Frank,
The easiest method is to find a machinist in your city who can either cut a 5/8" inch or 3/4" hold in the coin using a lathe, or punch the coin with the same sized hole. It will cost you next to nothing, but I can't guarantee the quality. I would HIGHLY advise you spend a few more dollars and get a coin made with from one of industries top coin gaffers. Yes, it will cost a bit more, but personally, quality always trumps being cost effective.

Frank, if you can, talk to Doug Brewer. He got the way coolest version of this idea made, by someone in California, I think.

Thanks for the tips, guys.
Eric, on a side note, can Flash coins relit be done with a chinese shell and Chinese flipper? Or can people see 2 coins deep through the hole in the chinese shell? There's a Chinese tradition of burning fake paper money at the graveyard so your ancestors will have it in the afterlife. It'd make for a good story to go along with the magic and would be even cooler to do with red flash paper and Chinese coins. Frank |
