Hey guys and gals,
The first Sound Waves Levitation is complete and Jack shot a quick video of it in action in the shop. Jack had it nice and slow in the video but it can go faster. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6itCfvbf5_o Turn your sound on as it explains everything. Hope you enjoy it! -Chris.

Sorry to be sincere: I don't find the "tip" in this illusion.
Despite I supose there are complicate mechanics involved developing this illusion (so it's a meritorious engineering work), I think the support is obvious, not deceptive at all, not magic. Specially on slowly presentation, people has lots of time to think where magician is suspended (about 80 seconds...), and they find inmediately solution, perhaps faster acting don't give time to think, but I still don't know... |

Sorry Chis but honestly even to me
Sorcer has right on this . P.S. Of Course Chris has also some good Ideas, I'm talking just on this. I think what Sorcer say about this illusion is valid also on many others " Illusions" and not just for Mr Stolz's ideas, an example ceck some of the latest Mayne things, but there are a lot of example like this out there, thanks. |

Well the pole levi is "obvious" to those in the know. Some magicians think if they know how something works, it's not entertaining. Like most stage effects, this needs a sharp routine and patter. This vid is just a demo, and lacks both. Some won't "like it" and that's fine. Others seem to find time to come here just to bash.
I see nothing being offered to the magic community by these same critics. I've seen posters here who say they don't like the Zig Zag or the Origami, so that's proof you can't please everyone. Stepping off my soap box to resume work:) Jack

We could all do a little better (myself included) at not bashing illusions based on our 'Magician's eye' and remember that an audience wants entertainment. That's what's missing in shows today! People are wanting a show to stump magicians and are not putting even half of their energy into making it entertaining to the lay audience.

Chriss, I think your illusion is quite nice. I make a point of never evaluating the quality of an effect before I get the chance to ask a few laymen what they thought. A better quality video would be nice, but based on what we can see, I think this is quite promissing.

My only issue is wtih the speed.. but it CAN go faster.. and so .. for busking.. or for private events.... I can't think of a more interesting thing than to start your show by floating in the air! Makes the rest of your act almost anticlimactic.
This is not a levitation for all times and for all performers. You probably couldn't find a good rationale for performing this on a stage.. since you're already above teh crowd.. but for busking.. this is IDEAL.. the angles are great.. the levitation is clean.. and the mic WORKS!! For what it is. and what it was designed for.. I like it |

Man, that is an AWESOME idea.
I would start levitating and keep on acting like nothing's happening. Sure fire for great reactions as an MC. |

I like it a lot. That said, the box itself is particularly "unmotivated", but if it was a sound monitor (for example) or other logical item...
In fact, here's how I'd want to present it: Two "identical" sound monitors on stage and a stand-alone mike. Per your presentation idea, performer asks if "everyone can see his feet". Some can't , so performer decides spontaneously [apparently] to wheel over one of the monitors - turning it around as he does so that the speaker grill is facing outward - and then puts the mike stand on top of the monitor. He clambers up there, again asking if they can all see his feet. Responding to a "No" (real or imaginary) he then levitates, saying "How about now?"... Now, I get that your current "mike stand" is built into the odd-looking box in this video; and I get that the microphone is hardwired into the box. But, going the extra mile, if the mike stand had a way to easily connect (electrically, and perhaps mechanically) to the box [monitor] I suspect the rest could be fairly simple to work out. Better? I think so. More expensive to build? Absolutely. But then better always is. TW (PS: BTW, the box could also be a video monitor, utilizing a flat-screen monitor in the front portion of a box that looks like an older tube-style monitor. In that case, a nice visual of the performer levitating AND his small-screen image levitating could be very cool)

All good ideas, but this was designed with the lower price tag in mind. Your suggestions would at lease double the price.
Again, I think magicians over think certain things. The "odd looking" box, is something to house the amp and something SUBSTANTIAL, to stand on. I don't think it needs to be "more than it is". Jack

I really think that the audience would like this illusion. It would go great at small gigs or school shows.

Hi,
This looks great. Has anyone out there bought one? I would love to hear your feedback on this and see someone working this in front of a crowd of people. Best, Sileeni.... |
