I can understand why some people may not like this. Dan was thinking way outside the box when he came up with this effect. Personally I enjoy performing things that are different and seem completely impromptu and Flink Flop fits this criteria. If you are a professional performer this is obviously not something you are likely to use.
But for a casual environment, especially when someone puts you on the spot by asking you to do a trick, Flink Flop is perfect. I was in this situation yesterday and I pulled the old, "Well I don't have anything with me...on second thought lets try this", and I performed Flink Flop which went great. It just seems so impossible that these two flip flops are linked and the best part is that there is nothing for the spectator to see because they actually are linked together. The method to linking the flip flops is very clever and makes this effect a lot of fun to perform. Plus it's only $10 which in my opinion is a good deal. Everyone wears flip flops this time of year where I live so I can see myself performing Flink Flop quite a bit this summer. Matt |

Flip flops come in many styles. Does this have to be done with the plastic cheapies or can the cloth higher quality ones work as well. I wear a brand called Scotts ... will they work? Sounds like a good effect for those of us in the tropics to have for the right situation.

Voldemort - you are hilarious! All these accusations about me. You know it would be nice if I knew Dan Hauss and the people at Papercrane. But the truth is, I don't. As I already mentioned I have been following the Café for years and just signed up recently. I am a very busy person with not a lot of time to post remarks. The first time I did was on this thread and have been continueing to do so because of your remarks being so ridiculous. I must admit it has been quite interesting hearing your point of view. You sounds like a cool guy, so chill brother. Oh and Papercrane I'll be expecting some pay off soon for my promotional services. Lol. Kidding!
I think Papercrane is awesome and deserve a little more respect than what your giving them by accusing them of using "ringers" to increase sales. Your reasoning sounds like it could make sense but your looking into to things WAY to much man. You'll see in time I am just a guy with little time who likes to post my thoughts to share. I will be posting more on other threads as well. And yes we all have "usernames" that are not our reall names. Is Voldemort your reall name? Lol oh and btw my name is Kevin! see you around! |

I don't see what's wrong with doing magic with flip flops. It's certainly not suited for a professional gig, but when you're with friends it seems like a great trick. I don't wear flip flips so it's not for me, but to me, it's not nearly as gross as pulling a thread out of your eye or some of the other tricks that came out this year!

I don't think it's gross, you don't even touch where their feet were, but I don't find it impressive either. I like this type of magic; extremely simple is usually extremely powerful. However, this is a little too simple. Whether it's the method or not, who's not going to think that your flip flop simply opens up. I just can't wrap my head around how this could be perceived as impressive/magical. If the flip flops could be examined, then it'd be a different story. I might be wrong though, because apparently Dan waited 2+ years before releasing it, so obviously he knows the effect and how it plays out.
Voldemort: My guess is that some magicians google new effects and get a link to a discussion of it on the Magic Café. They aren't members and so they join to post their thoughts on the effect. It makes perfect sense that someone might not feel the need to become a member and post on a thread of an effect that they like if everyone else is posting great things about the effect. However, when the negative posts come rolling in, they feel they have to defend the effect because they like it. To me it makes sense, it's at least possible. Nothing miraculous about someone joining the Café and posting only in one topic and not being a ringer. |

I am curious and would like to see a demo. Flip flop magic is not high on my priority list but the creativity behind it is worth exploring.

I'm definitely getting this.
This is one of those awkward effects that if you can really do magic, this is exactly what you would do, simply out of blue, anytime, anywhere miracle. I may not do this on every stranger as far as my sandal, due to the footsie thingy some people may get a little weary (read your crowd, you should be able to tell if they will get yucked out or not), but I can think of a ton of situations under most circumstance to perform this... My entire family, my woman's entire family (which is massive), my daughters and her friends sandals, step-daughters and her friends sandals, drunk woman strangers (they never care, drunk people want entertainment, especially if they know your a magician and you do some effects before-hand). Think about it, if you perform a good 4-5 effects for a stranger and there into it laughing there butt off, will they care? They will hand you there sandal in a heart-beat to see something cool. I personally would choose woman if it is someone I don't know to well, just the fact of a man to man foot rubbing together rubs me the wrong way! hahaha I love this, I'll be getting this the second my check rolls in Paul |

Hey, they'll think I have a card fetish, levitating fetish, etc etc As long as it's only the woman thinking I love there feet, I'm A-OK with that! |
