I have Blackstone's Spirit Handkerchief Instructions by Bert Wheeler Hollywood Magic Co., Inc and it is signed Harry Blackstone. It is in good? condition but has come apart where the pages have been folded because it is very old.
I was wondering how I would be able to preserve these pages. I don't want to use tape. I would also love to display the signed page in a frame of some sort. The pages are brittle. Thanks a bunch! |

I guess I am looking for help to preserve paper. Perhaps someone knows or has done so in the past.

Take it to a fine arts restorer... because not all paper/ink is the same... so you'll need an expert opinion.
Here is one I found on google http://www.calgaryartconservation.com/

I have book at home on conserving items that I need to fine and dig out. Leo Beneke (sp) wrote it as he did a great deal of work on the Copperfield collection.

Conservation framing is what you'll have to do if you want to put it on display. This means using acid free matting, acid free mounting, etc. Also, make sure you put it under glass or plastic that filters out the bad wavelengths of light.
Call a local museum and they can direct you to a paper conservator and a qualified framer. The torn/damaged crease lines can be repaired and then framed but it won't be cheap. |

Perfect! Thank you for all your help everyone. I talked to Stephen Forrester here in Calgary and he was able to point me in a good direction. I know it will cost a bit of money but in the end I think to preserve this piece of history will be more than worth it.
When I get some time I will post pictures of the before and after of the instructions. It probably will take a bit of time though because I am currently paying off my university loan. Thanks again! |
