"There is a big difference between a Magician and a man who does tricks... Fundamentally, the making of a Magician is no different than the making of other professional people. One must be trained in the mechanics, the alternate methods and be skilled in the presentation in order to meet any conditions which may arise."

Well, I think I agree, Pakar, if only because there is no alternative. Exposure is not only here to stay, but we have no idea how bad it will become as time moves on.
The real problem with it all is that we are trying to convince people that we do the impossible. The exposers put us a bit like the Wizard of Oz- "Pay not attention to the man behind the curtain". So, do we just say "OK, it is just fake, but watch how well I do it"? For me, the only two solutions are (1) give it up because it is regarded as stupid, or (2) come up with creative ways to make it seem totally different from what has been exposed. Meanwhile, I think we should all join in on a group hex on the exposers...

Exposure IS here to stay but... Be that as it may...
I think a "repackaging" of the image of the "impossibility" inherent in the performance of Magic, would also fall into what Tarbell spoke of when he mentioned "alternate methods"... Examples... The New Age crowd loves The Law of Attraction etc.. (There's your "mysticism" explanations...) The SciFi crowd loves all the Quantum Physics, Alternate Universe explanations etc... Then there's always the NLP Crowd that just loves all the "Derren"ish stuff... Sometimes simple Card tricks become a "window to your soul" with these people... The children are a bit more advanced nowadays with their Magic knowledge but I do believe that they'll always be the easiest to "fool" as you say... (I don't like that word "fool" actually...) I really believe that the onus is on "us" to make it awe inspiring for "them"... Especially if you're a professional... At the end of the day, METHODS are just that, methods. Presentation is still everything. Look at Uri Geller and tell me that ain't the truth. Imho, THIS POINT IS REALLY REALLY IMPORTANT... I believe we should keep doing Magic because we love doing it and seeing the smiles... LIFE is too fleeting to give up on what we really LOVE to do just because it's a bit harder now... At least that's how I see it... Though the Group Hex thing sounds pretty dang good... At least we'll freak out the New Agers if not the Exposers...

Yes, Pakar - most of us know that people like to be entertained.
Your list of themes suggests you understand the basic notion of speaking to people in the language they prefer. If we seek to entertain those who speak of horses perhaps we should adorn our props and palaver accordingly. Somewhere between the act of communication and the discussion of methods used in tricks you left out the most basic aspect of magic - the application of intent/will to effect the world. Such is the moral question of technology. Whether introduced via Logos or Mythos - the Ethical question remains. Presentation is how the chef makes the food look even more tasty - how the olfactory and taste is enhanced by the visual. How about we stick to getting our offerings into non-toxic form before we fuss over garnishes and ambiance? If something about what we do is so toxic that others feel the need to spread a warning rather than tout our works... Exposure? - well lift any rock and see what lives there.

You know why don't act naive.
