As a mentalist when you perform, 90% of folks know you can't read minds in reality, and those that don't know wouldn't believe if you showed them how everything was done. However someone genuinely trying to dupe someone strikes me as much a true liar (not just a theatrical, one, that everyone knows or at least suspects might not be the real thing, despite a good entertaining performance), as the psuedo psychic who is constantly justifying what he does to himself (or worse, doesn't feel guilty at all). I wouldn't call that an honest way to make a living, you basically just contradicted yourself in one post. |

I don't see anything contradictory at all in Dreadnought's post. He was speaking of the harm done to performers that entertain in a theatrical context by exposing the methods of those who claim real abilities.

And then he turns around to say that they are honestly earning their wages (after just calling them frauds). How is that NOT a contradiction? And furthermore, by him adding the "bad side of what we do" leads me to believe even more strongly that he wasn't just talking about your everyday performer, but a fake psychic or psuedo scientist. |

Read his post again because you're not understanding. If you had read some of his previous posts on the issue of exposing frauds, you would better understand his take on it.

I remember bending a spoon for a physics teacher. She was totally dumbfounded. I told her if she left it on her desk it would continue to bend albeit very slowly. During a break I sneaked back into her room and put a further bend in it. It's strange how academics believe they cannot be fooled. That reminds me I'm performing for several hundered scientists at an international conference next month. I hope I don't get the same reception as Bobser got from MENSA, LOL

All Dreadnought said was that he was against exposing "frauds" by revealing methods used by legitmate entertainers. I agree with him wholeheartedly. There was no contradiction.
Good thoughts, Bob |
