Bill: I recently purchased your book. There is soooo much information. It is very thoughtfully arranged, the stories will provide much material for thought and practice. I'm curious if you utilized any of this material in your coursework. Thank-you I look forward to reading , experimenting and above all enjoying . John

StrangeMAgick, it seems that the purchase has to be greater than $25.00 for the coupon code to work. I didn't know this until it came up here. (I didn't even know about the coupons!)
Leaycraft, no, I never used any of this in teaching.* At the time I had put magic aside to concentrate on other things. Thanks for the good words about my book! *However, I enjoyed telling students about the "Eskimo" being perhaps the most inventive people on earth. They have done the most with limited resources in their environment. Some examples are interesting. Baleen, whale cartilage, is a flexible material that is useful to the people in many ways. The "Eskimo" will freeze a piece of baleen bent in a curve in a piece of meat and put it out on the ice. A bear (usually, but sometimes another animal) will eat the meat, and its body heat will then thaw the meat. The baleen will spring open and puncture the stomach of he animal, which will then bleed to death. The people stalk he animal until they find its carcass and use the meat and other parts. A hunter will freeze the handle of a steel knife in ice with the blade sticking up. Wolves will be attracted by the sun glinting off the shiny blade and come to investigate. Eventually, one will lick the blade, cut his tongue, and taste the blood. It will then lick again, and tasting more blood, will continue to do so. The other wolves see the other bleeding from the mouth, turn on him and kill him. The hunter then finds a dead wolf and recovers his knife. Seals make a conical hole in the ice so that they can come up to breathe. A hunter will find one of these holes and build a mound on snow nearby after enlarging the hole in the ice. Then he will take a can of green peas (from a trading post, of course) and sprinkle peas around the hole and hide behind the mound of snow. When the seal comes up to take a pea, the hunter runs out and kicks it in the ice hole.

This points back to our recent thread about Shagai. Another bone that's commonly used and traded, is wolf canines. However, they are a man's thing to do.
