Hey guys,
I normally do birthdays for 12 and older, but I have a 8 year old party coming up and was wondering how 12 year olds differ from 8 year olds? meaning will the effects I perform work for both ages? or what effects or type of magic works for 8 year olds? thanks for your help |

Read some already printed or recorder information on different age groups and the magic they like or are able to enjoy...
1/Birthday Magicians Handbook by Dave Fiscus 2/Seriously Silly by David Kaye (aka Silly Billy) both book & DVD are superb in breaking down kid shows by age 3/No Fail Kids Show Magic Vol 2 DVD by Sean Taylor 4/Magic for Older Children DVD by Pat Fallon |

First, shoot me....really, just take me out into a field and put one in the back my head like I'm a woman walking funny and you are Taliban....
Yes there is a significant difference between 12 year olds and eight year olds and the shows would be different. Since you already have mega experience with 12 year olds I won't explain those lil' critters. I will admit you are the first person who had experience with 12 and over and not the younger children. Eight year old I take it is seven year old turning eight. The show should be more fun interaction than attempting to be doing fooling magic (though the magic should fool). Boys like the magician makes a mistake, the they see but you don't see stuff, sucker effects are good, booger jokes. Pretending to have a booger on your finger and you not being able to get it off will kill. Stuff like that. You'll do fine, good luck and all that. |

There's no guarantee they will remember what card they chose! I did a Do As I Do with two decks of cards - I've got the kid's card in my hands, and he is swearing it's NOT the one he picked!
It's just as funny to them to see you fail at doing a trick so they can laugh AT you. Might see if you can construct a routine that you appear to fail horribly, and eveery time you try to fix it you fail worse - and then without realizing it, the magic happens. Saw one Miser's Dream routine where the magician had the kid go around to his friends, touch their ears, and "drop the coin" into the bucket. The kid felt like a magician. Ed |

I must agree that lots of magician in trouble tricks and doing things that appear to be gross works great with this age group.

Lots of interaction with them and they do act goofy. I find that this age group likes to talk more and yell out "I know that trick" "I've seen that before" So whatever you do keep it moving forward with lots of fun and action!
